My son cooked haggis bolognese and it was quite nice. I tried philly carbonara, fast tortellini alfredo, and philly meatball pasta. Looking at philly web site at momentTime is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time0

Today I cooked this:
pasta with cauliflower, walnuts and feta
I have been looking for a pasta dish with cauliflower, and this was quite good. The children liked it at lot, better than us adults:rotfl:
I will keep the recipe, but I am not sure this is THE recipe - I might have to change a bit here and there. I found the dish lacked a bit of color.0 -

Was going to make pizza for tonight, but Mr LW informs me he's going to the beer festival with his mate, so he'll just have soup and a sandwich when he gets in,:( because we need to pick his mate up at 19:00 (I get to drive them there, bring the car home, then go and pick them up when they've sampled all the beer they want to).If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

This has reminded me about a very simple dish (which I cooked last week), to use up cauliflower.
I made some cauliflower and potato mash, which I find tasty enough in its own right, because I add chives and finely chopped spring onions a a bit of grated cheddar.
However, I had some left over (well, a lot actually:D), so I got a bowl, and mixed in an egg, one finely sliced scotch bonnet pepper, a little garam masala. Then I got a little frying pan, and spread the mix evenly (after melting a little butter in the bottom). Then I cut some cherry tomatoes in half and placed them around the edge (sprinkling a little salt and pepper on them, grated a little cheese on top, and then put the frying pan under the grill for about ten minutes until it browned on top.
It was fairly spicy, but really tasted good, and I bet that nobody else in the UK was eating the same as me that night.0 -
I'm always tweaking recipes til they suit our particular taste; my cookery books have loads of little pencil notes in the margin, where I do this. It's one of the very few times I think it's OK to write in printed books.:D
I am like this too, most times I tweak the recipe from the first time I cook it to suit everyones taste, and if I remember I will make a note (I will add more of one spice, and less of another, leave something out etc)
My OH also likes to cook, but unlike me, he always follows the recipe. That will sometime give us some trouble. I will tell him where to find a recipe, and he will cook it. Then comes dinner time, and the dish tastes nothing like when I make it:rotfl:
andy - cauliflower and potato mash with chives and cheddar sounds delicius - will have to try that out0 -
I love marmalade but find the pots for sale too large - it always goes mouldy before its half finished. So, finding a recipe for Grapefruit and Lemon Marmalade thought I would have a go. and put into smaller pots which I have collected.
bought grapefruit (Pink) then thought Limes would go nicely!
set aside this afternoon to make it! is it made? is it bu99ery! the instructs says to remove rind and cut into tiny strips! neither of my potato peelers were up to the job and had to use a knife! it took me all afternoon to scrub the wax off the fruit, take the peel off and then strip the pith off and I resorted to scissors to cut the strips! then chop the flesh of the fruit.........jeez!
Right now I have the shredded rind and the fruit in a large pan and the 'bits' in a large plastic bag - I didnt have enough time to cook it! will do it tomorrow - but, I sort of wish I had just bought some Roses Lime Marmalade.......even if I DO have to throw half of it away!0 -
Meritaten when we make three-fruit marmalade (takes three each of sweet oranges, grapefruits and lemons) we cut the fruit in half, squeeze the juice (using the squeezer on the food processor) winkle out any pips and put them in a cloth bag (for the pectin) and just wuzz all the fruit flesh quickly in the food processor. You don't get the long strips, it's true, but it's a lot quicker and easier, and the resulting marmalade is delicious!:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

Thanks for the tip LameWolf - er, I dont possess a food processor!
I like the sound of the the three fruit one! how much sugar and water please?
Progress report! I made it this morning and it is yummmy! I got a good set and although I halved the recipe it worked well!
It is a dark colour (but its pink when the light shines through it!!! Thinking of displaying it on kitchen windowsill its so pretty, lol), absolutelty choc a block with shreds (the best part), and tastes strongly of fruit and sort of caramelly! it isnt too sweet - in fact it is just how I like it!
I will make marmalade or jam again, I am so please with the intense flavour, just like I remember from years ago!
I have already worked out a quicker way of preparing the fruit!0 -

Just having a look at the "Cookery Year" book - for the full amount, 3 each of lemons, grapefruit and oranges, you need 6lb sugar, plus measure the fruit and juice once it's prepared, and add 3 times that amount of water. So for each one pint of prepared fruit, you'd add three pints of water.

ETA The one you've done sounds lovely.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
