Next recipe will be tortilla soup. Although I think it's cheating slightly as I use the cookbook its from ALL the time. It's Appetite for Reduction, in case anyone is interested! It's an American book, aimed at vegans, and has some great recipes. Everything I have made from it has tasted great which is always a good sign. Don't you just hate it when you have spent ages following a recipe and it tastes so-so?
Ooh I have that book yet have never actually been tempted to make anything from it yet! It actually disappointed me when it came! What would you recommend that's good from it?0 -
Success! Tried out carrot honey and ginger soup from the Soup Kitchen recipe book. I tweaked it slightly - the recipe is to serve 6 and there's only 2 of us, so did a third of the amounts, was generous with the onion, and found that it needed extra water, but it's one we can add to our list of meals.
For just the two of us, it's basically an onion, 3 carrots (grated), juice of a lemon, a thumb-sized bit of root ginger, a tablespoon of honey, pepper and salt, and a pint and a half of boiling water; I had to saute the onion and the ginger, then add the rest and simmer it for 45 mins, then wuzz in in the food processor.
We ate it with HM tomato bread.:o
I'd probably have done one of my usual "tried and tested" soups if it weren't for this thread!:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

It was absolutely delicious.
Pasta with Tomatoes and Mozarella
Oops sorry it's a pasta bake!:rotfl:
The only veggie meal I make regular:D0 -
Ooh. I'm trying a new one today. Carrot and coriander soup, in my slow cooker. I've done a couple of onions and a big bunch of carrots in a little butter in a pan, until the onions were slightly softened. Have chucked in sc with two veg stock cubes and some water to cover, and will leave overnight. It smells good. I will add a big bunch of the coriander in the morning.
I do hope it's good. My friend is vegan, she's just had a c section today, so I thought I could take her a couple of portions when I'm *invited* to meet the new arrival. I should get about 5 or 6 portions I hope.Bossymoo

The first thing we made from it was the baked onion rings which were incredible, the chickpea piccata is amazing, the mango bbq beans are great (I didn't think I would like it, but was pleasantly surprised). The Pasta de los Angeles was lovely and we make the Cajun spiced bean balls all the time. I also really, really liked the quinoa, white bean and kale stew and we make that a lot, with whatever we have lurking in the bottom of the fridge. Gosh, don't I sound as if I eat all the time!
Why were you disappointed with it? The one thing that annoys me is that I find the font of the recipe titles hard to read! I'm amazed that you have it - no one has ever heard it usually!0 -

Bread slice quiche (tasty white bread works best and is nicest)
Jamaican Rice and Peas an outright success, cheap and oh so repeatable.
Peanut Butter Chilli Butternut Squash (delicious a total winner.
Can I have these recipes,
Peanut butter chilli bNS. Sounds especially delicious.- prior planning prevents poor performance!

Well I got it because I love the cupcakes/cookies/pie books by the same author as well as Vegan With A Vengeance and Veganomican. I'm not vegan but I am allergic to dairy and eggs so I love vegan recipe books!
I don't know - maybe it's just not the type of food I cook. I will have another look with fresh eyes and try and find something I fancy though!0 -
What a lovely challenge idea! I'd never seen this thread before, but I'd love to join in!
Something I've been thinking about a bit recently is that my mum's got a handwritten book of recipes from my great-grandmother, and last time I visited, mum was adding to her own little notebook of favourite recipes. I'd really like to start putting together something similar of my own, only I've only got about 2 or 3 recipes I'd consider worthy!Time to find some more.
Feeling all inspired after reading through some of this thread, but all I've got in right now is some kale, potatoes, mushrooms, 3 slightly floppy carrots, a tin of borlotti beans and a bag of red lentils!Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0 -
I am so joining this challenge. I love cookery books, I just find they tend to be full of very long lists of expensive ingredients and my other half won't eat what I cook (he's a bodybuilder, it has to be plain meat and veg blurgh!), so it makes it pretty hard.0
