Hi everyone and a very Happy New Year to you all!
I haven't posted on here too often but I do enjoy reading all your posts and seeing what you are all up to during the day!
I'm going to try and post more often. I want to try and be more OS this year and I definitely want to de-clutter a bit!

Well I put on my new colourised version of "It's a Wonderful Life" earlier and spent about three hours catching up on the ironing that had been mounting since before Christmas! My excuse is that the Christmas tree had been put in front of the ironing board which lives in the corner of the living room, beside a book case! My husband had got the board out a couple of times to iron a work shirt but I prefer not to struggle with things like that and chose to leave it 'til the tree was put back in the loft. Well I always like to start the new year free of Christmas decorations as to me Christmas is over and I like a nice fresh clean start for the new year. Therefore the tree went away a couple of days ago and the washing sat there taunting me.
If I have a big pile of things to do I like to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" while I do it. On Christmas Eve I was watching my old black and white version while I tackled the mountain of presents to wrap, (followed by Holiday Inn.... that's how many parcels I had to wrap!!) Well my Husband bought me the colourised version for Christmas so that accompanied the ironing!
Oh, and despite the warnings on here I have put a wash load on as I'm going to try and keep up to date with my washing each day to avoid wet washing draped around the house and an ironing mountain developing again!

We're having a chicken from the freezer for dinner tonight as all the leftovers are finished now. We did have some suspect looking sprouts in the bottom of the fridge which I have peeled ready to go with the chicken! I'm very lucky that my Husband does pretty much all the cooking here, although I do the baking of cakes etc, and the porridge!

Well, I'd best be off now, no doubt a lot of you are hoping I don't stick to my word about posting more often after this long post!!

    Hugs to all xxxx
I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!

I seem to have a nasty habit of killing threads!

    Happy New Year Everyone!
Our party seemed to go very well, everyone chatted away to each other and clearly enjoyed their food and drink! I was a bit tense before hand (nothing new there!) but quickly relaxed and enjoyed myself too.
Late start today, with DH cooking breakfast for us. DB and I had a great walk with the dog before he had to set off for home again. DS and family land early tomorrow morning so need to straighten the bedrooms before bed.
I hope this year will bring you health and happiness.
    Take care.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR:beer:

Hope this finds everyone warm, well and happy.
Was very quiet firework wise other than our "lovely":eek: next door neighbours(yeah right) letting some kind of wailing banshee type of firework in their back garden.:mad:
I had left the radio quite loudly on downstairs and the uplighter for
the cats but this was so loud that Mark went down to make sure all was well. Everything was ok our lot are quite laid back.
Today has been lovely. We didn't exchange our pressies at Christmas due to the accident Mark didn't have a chance to get sorted(far too busy fetching and carrying for me:o) and I was also waiting for some stuff to arrive via Amazon so we decided that we would have our present exchange today.
got loads of lovely silicone kitchen stuff including some fantastic oven gloves(with proper fingers:j:j)as the Ocras :jI got from Lakeland haven't been too great. I also got a couple of CDs; some bath stuff, two small veg knives(no idea where my old faithfuls have gone) more wooden spoons and loads more:j.
We had a brunch this afternoon (Mark did it-again:o) and tonight will be a cheese and olive night.

We had a Bullfinch in the garden today. We have loads of different birds that visit every day and have loads of feeders but this was the first time we have had a Bullfinch so Mark was pleased.

Not looking forward to saying "goodbye" to the lovely David Tennant.
    Other than that very quiet.

Church Mouse sorry I thought two of your sons were police officers. I am full of admiration for you son and think he(and his colleagues)do an amazing job. HUGS to him(and you of course)

Marie hope hubby is ok today.
Twink lovely to hear from you. Stay safe in that snow.
Donny-Gal Will PM you tomorrow. Honest.

Pen-Pin! Hope you have a lovely afternoon.
Taplady hugs to you and yours. Thinking of Janet
Hope everyone has a lovely evening.

    Take care and stay warm

    Ann xx

    evening all!

just got back for a long day at work. Hope you've all enjoyed your new year. Not caught up with the thread yet.

The good news is Janet is home:j and that her infection is under control and her renal failure is sorting itself out so fingers crossed she has now turned a corner. Many thanks to all those sending their good wishes:T

My auntie is also home but unfortunately the outlook for her is not so good. The powers that be are having a meeting to discuss the best way forward.

No OS to report again sorry :o- but have got 3 days off now so hopefully will get myself into gear again.

Will have a catch up on the thread now x

Halight - hope the twins are better soon x

sunnygirl - (((hugs))) thinking of you all again today x

    Evening all,

Happy New Year to everyone and I shall try to keep up more. Despite saying we weren't going to stay up, it was 1.30am in the end - ds1, dh and I cooked a meal from the freezer - pork and prawn patties, steaks with sauce marchand de vin, rosti and salad and a lemon and lime meringue pie.

We have decided to try to eat as locally as possible this year - so dh fiddled with Google maps to do a 100mile radius round Belfast - however so much of it falls in the Irish Sea that we have extended it to 150miles. I think w'll cheat on some things but are going to do the best we can.

We're having the last of the cold beef tonight with a pasta bake and salad. I made a quiche at lunch using leftover smoked salmon, lo cream, lo spinach, lo puff pastry and some lo grated cheese - very os:D - and cooked in the Remoska.

Off to watch Doctor Who now - have a good evening:beer:

Molly I have never heard of that saying before . whats the reasoning behind it? is it just bad luck?

Yes i think you wash your luck away!! Its something I picked up from my mum.

I have had a lovely day today. Didn't do cooking (thats tomorrow now) but went to Burford in the Cotswolds for a scoot. It was freezing and my poor fingers are so cold anyway. I have just ordered a pair of sheepskin mittens so really hope they work as not very OS. Then we watched a DVD - New in Town. Very good!!! Im feeling quite relaxed today and surprisingly my anxiety has calmed down. I think its because I have had my family at home so they take my mind off things.

Hope you have a lovely evening,
    Mollyx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I typed a long post twice yesterday and lost the blasted thing each time.

Hello to wilbur and reemie and other new people to the thread :hello:

    Candygirl

DH has had the washing machine on three times today  but my Dad who was also a Scot said the superstition was not to have soaking washing "steeping" over Hogmannay, so fingers crossed. Maybe different regions have a variant on the superstition.

DD(24) has gone back to Oxford so it was me, DH and three DDs seeing in the New Year. I made a huge lasagne with quorn mince, mushrooms, carrots, tomatoes etc and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Making a proper meal myself made me feel more back to normal and DH made a late lunch today of turkey crown, roast potatoes, stuffing and green veg.

Tonight will just be a sandwich or something light.

Gave in to temptation and ordered stuff from Lush online - got two retro (discontinued) shower gels, lip balm and some dream cream for DD(20) - and got a £10 free gift to be added as well.

Lovely to hear from Twink and glad Penny Pincher had a nice time.

Great to hear from anniestar too :j

    Hugs to everyone

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL - MAY YOU ALL HAVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY ONE, AND OF COURSE A VERY THRIFTY ONE!

Have been missing in action for a few days as we have been away at a caravan rally - we helped run it so have been cooking 3 course hot dinners for 64 people, a cooked breakfast yesterday morning and lunch one day! It all went very well and the food and entertainment was brilliant - everyone had a good time, so that's the most important thing. Look's like we will be doing it again next New Year! Perhaps I won't think about that at the moment! Even though most of my days were spent in the kitchen a lot of the guests offered help and 2-3 people helping for an hour each really makes a difference and most of them really want to offer some sort of help as they get such good value for money. I am tired but have had a lovely hot shower and hair wash and we've had friends over for a coffee they've left so have been in my PJ's and lovely cuddly dressing gown since 5.30pm! (didn't see the point of showering and getting dressed again as we are not going anywhere and not expecting anyone!). OH asleep on the settee as he has been busy too at the rally, none of us will be late to bed tonight! We brought some pate and part baked rolls back that we didn't eat so had warm rolls and pate for a late lunch and will just have cheese and biscuits for tea as have eaten so much in the last few days - don't want much.

I will try to get to the scales tomorrow if poss, but really want to get back to diet as have worked so hard to get to this point I don't want to throw all my hard work away. I know I will have put some weight on but am not to sure how much so will just weigh and start back with the healthier eating and go from there. Have big birthday this week too, with our night away at our fav hotel next weekend, so will be having more good food and drink, but will enjoy and move on.

Have had blond streaks put in my hair which is something I've never had before (always had red type colour lo lights) - it was a bit of a shock when I first saw it but now really really like it - so many people have said it makes me look younger - exactly the right thing to say! Someone said yesterday they thought I looked 10 years younger (think he had quite alot to drink though!!).

Dad seems to be ok at the moment but had Drs appointment this week - so will see what that brings! Am going to mum's tomorrow as my younger sister and her family are visiting from Devon - so will be nice to see them.

Will just need to pop to shops tomorrow to get more milk etc and meats for pack-ups as OH and myself are back at work on Monday and boys back to school on Tuesday. Will just get essentials as still have quite a lot of food to use up.

Take care those in the snow. Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.
