Ellis Island is on Koval, not Paradise, and is much closer to the strip than a mile I think.
EI was my FIL's favorite place in Vegas - he loved that it was small and homey...he also loved the BBQ. I wouldn't necessarily plan to hang out there either...but for a drink, bit of gambling (we only play slots, so no idea on the tables) and some BBQ...I suppose some make a night of it...not really something we've ever considered.
I defer to pebbles' judgment on Terrible's...we like staying on strip but I understand that some have reasons to stay off-strip sometimes.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Aprilyes you will have to go through Immigration , pick up bags , go through customs and then re check your bags for Las Vegas . you could make it in 55 mins if there is no queue at Houston , but it is cutting fine .
get them to move you to a later flight from Houston to LV . i bet they have a regular service . but like we have said if you miss your connection Continental have to get you to your destination .
I would agree with trying to contact Continental and see what they can do...though from experience several years ago, they seem to think that's enough time...they once moved one of our flights such that we only had a 45 minute connection (Newark, I think) and we called and they said that their system showed that was enough time so they couldn't change our connection. Thankfully, it shifted again to less than 30 minutes and THEN they swapped us onto a later connection.
I would be pretty annoyed at Virgin Holidays if it was me though...hopefully they can get it sorted out, but since Continental sell flights with those connections, not sure if they will be able to do much.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I also read what Pebbles said about Terribles, but doesnt Pebbles spend half her time in Vegas:j. I have thought about staying at Terribles but have always found somewhere better IMO for the same or less.
My point really is that for a first timer Terribles isnt a great choice but could be a good choice for subsequent visits0 -

Does the fact that I spend a long time in Vegas diminish my opinion in some way? I do hope not.
To be honest, I haven't stayed at Terrible's for some time now, although we do visit every trip for the low priced gambling and to meet friends who prefer it to strip properties. We didn't stay on the strip for the first 7 trips. Granted, it (the strip) is definitely quieter now because of the poor economy, but we preferred to visit the strip than spend all our time in the thick of it, so to speak.
We have only spend 10 nights on the strip this trip. That leaves 43(?) nights off strip.
Unless you are staying for only a few days, you don't need to stay on the strip to enjoy everything the place has to offer.0 -

Of course it doesnt diminish your opinion,I wasnt being derogatory, thats why I put a jumpimg for joy smiley at the end, but as a frequent visitor your thoughts on where to stay are probably (mine def are) different to a first timer as Stuie is. I also go to Terribles every trip but I still dont think Terribles a great choice for a first timer especially as that would be his arrival hotel.
I dont think I will bother to post anymore though0 -

Why not? I wasn't meaning anything bad by my statement.
Please don't take it the wrong way. I was pointing out that some travellers prefer to visit the strip, rather than be on the strip the whole time.
I just think that there is so much more to Las Vegas than the four mile stretch of the city containing the largest and most spectacular hotels in the world.
I'm sure that you know that too.:)0 -
JuneCalm down u two !
I like everyones opinions, just as i like everyones on Tripadvisor! Its how you make a lot of decisions these daysAs i said, i'll be on strip for the 5 nights of my 7 (Sun to Fri), but i'll be checking out as much as i can when am there and not just spending all night in 1 place!
As said, the idea of cheap on the Fri and Sat is cos
A: We fly with Virgin, arrive around 3pm... I reckon we will be conked out by 9 or 10pm! So wont see too much Fri night anyway...
B: Saturday, as hot as it is (have been to hotter mind!), we'll be sunbathing most of the day as need a tan ready for my wedding on the TuesdaySo Sat night we'll be checking out the off strip places, etc...
Then on Sunday, we'll check into a nice strip hotel and take it from there
Seriously though, i value everyones opinions, and yeah, theres more to vegas than the strip which i guess, including the one place i wanna goto: MEMPHIS CHAMPIONSHIP BBQ!!!! Now that looks like a restaurant i could live in !!0 -

AprilI also wouldn't have thought of Terrible's for a first timer...but Stuie's budget seems quite limited so he may need to be more creative than some if that's a primary factor...Terrible's doesn't really appeal to us as a hotel, but I can see why it may suit some people some of the time, and at least someone here has stayed there and was reasonably happy. Still, early days for the best offers for next summer.
