"Think my idea was to stay cheap, walk around here and there (dont mind walking), and then saturday sunbath all day (and a bit of Sunday) and sat night head over to where ellis island place is, and surrounding areas/taxi to Freemont street maybe?.....(a few rate that place on here), so staying off the strip until the Sunday....."

Stuie, Sunbathing and walking around the place you will be a bit crispy round the edges and medium/well done on the inside. Temperatures will be in excess of 100f, I think the recommended dwell time by the pool will be 30 mins.

Terribles is at least a mile from the strip, the same for Ellis island, it is difficult to get anywhere from Paradise rd without a cab, those cab fares add up and it's worth looking at a better hotel closer in with less cab fares.

To be honest if you choose to walk about don't start from Terribles, the east side of Paradise rd starts to get real scummy, one of the most risky areas is behind the convention centre and university. It has quite a derogatory name locally and by the Police.

Going for 5 nights is going to make it always seem more expensive, flights are more expensive with the recent tax increase, I would suggest that you benchmark your dates for price comparison on Expedia, possibly finding that their flight and hotel combo could be atrractive.

I assume that only going for 5 days means that direct flights are a must, spend time sitting in a mid-west hub whilst cheaper erodes even by a couple of hours a short LV visit.

so virgin lied to me and i have 55minutes to get through immigration and make my next flight? will i have to pick up baggage as well?
think ill be calling virgin in a bit

yes you will have to go through Immigration , pick up bags , go through customs and then re check your bags for Las Vegas . you could make it in 55 mins if there is no queue at Houston , but it is cutting fine .

get them to move you to a later flight from Houston to LV . i bet they have a regular service . but like we have said if you miss your connection Continental have to get you to your destination .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

We both like pools were there not too crowded, and the idea of the lazy river, and lots of open Sun as such, and with that bit of Luxary feel to it..... So looked at the Tower room at the MGM as it seems to have all that, and was cheaper than the other 2. 5000+ rooms, my god thats alot!! Makes me wonder if my $20 sarnie would work there!!!!

I picked Terribles as looking for a cheap place for the fri/sat night, and the estimated cost would be say $88.... I checked out Orleans but there rates would be alot higher (around $140 ish)...
Think my idea was to stay cheap, walk around here and there (dont mind walking), and then saturday sunbath all day (and a bit of Sunday) and sat night head over to where ellis island place is, and surrounding areas/taxi to Freemont street maybe?.....(a few rate that place on here), so staying off the strip until the Sunday.....

I know it sounds daft, but i need to keep my costs to that £300 for the week :) and as to MGM resort fee's, i thought it was next July they come in! And as to tables, i'll be looking for what we get over here (50 cent chips on roulette) or minimum $5 on Blackjack! :)

It seems to me that you are set on Terribles. I see another poster has pointed out how far it is from the strip and that the surrounding area isnt great. Why do you want to go to Ellis island ? Is it for the cheap eats if so thats a great idea, BUT there is nothing else there.

I doubt you will be able to sunbathe all day as it will prob be to hot

Orleans rates will come down nearer the time as will many other off strip properties rates..

As for 50 cnt chips on roullette. they may have them in Terribles although I think they are a dollar with a $10 min spread as is the case in most hotels. Casino Royale still has 50 cent chips with a lower min spread (may be $4). You will find plenty of $5 blackjack

MGM fee def started this year

off MGM website for a next june booking

    Itinerary Arriving: Sun Jun 05, 20112 Guests Departing: Wed Jun 08, 20111 Grand Tower Room 3 nights$489.97Taxes: $62.40Total: $552.37help_widget.gif Deposit Due:$195.99Resort Fee:
A daily resort fee of $11.20 (includes applicable tax) is added to all room reservations upon check-in. help_widget.gif
Room Requests: Non Smoking, 2 Queen Beds

I doubt you will get anywhere with a $20 tip at check in at MGM. I havent in the 3 times I have stayed there. It has worked for me at the dozen or so other hotels I have stayed at though

    June
I love the heat in that sense, i know its different from Florida heat in June, but i stay out all day in that with my factor 4 oil ! ;) I do like to fry as my missis puts it :)
Not hell bent on Terribles either, its just the estimated rate at the time falls into a budget i have to stick to (all revealed in July next year :) )
Orleans looks cool, so i guess it just boils down to me looking and waiting for the right rate to come up for there, or worst case, Best Western Mardi Gras ???....

As to Ellis Island, i read from a few peeps on here that it was a good entertainment place, food was good, casino part was good, and it does Karoake and nice price drinks, hence thinking going there on the Sat night :)
As MGM's are charging a fee, i'll just have to keep my eye out for hotels that drop big time in price, even if booking the last week in May! (Monte Carlo was my main place i liked, and really want to try and be cheeky and get away with the $20 trick!!) I know that comes with a fee too, etc......
As said, the Fri and Sat night, i was just looking to stay off the strip, in a place with a nice pool and cheap rate which enables me to spend a bit more on the Sun to Fri stay in a nice place :)

It does have cheap food the BBQ is best IMO, there are 2 diff restaurants (be prepared to wait for a while) you get a ticket a bit like the deli counter. Not sure about the Karaoke, there are cheap drinks. If you want to play roullette or blackjack you may have to play alone as I have never seen anyone on either table (i think there are only 2) but it has been around 1800 when I have been so early.

It is smaller than terribles casino and apart from the food it isnt somewhere I would want to stay for the evening.

If Terribles and Ellis island are the first 2 places you go to in Vegas, you may want to come home agin straight away;)

How about the Tropicana? always been happy with it there and usually reasonable costs too :) We stayed there a couple of times before we had a appt in the city.

Terribles to the strip is a bit of a trek and in the summer it really is too hot to manage it But I'm pretty sure the bus passes you can buy will also cover the trip and will be loads less than cabs!
