We're going on our first trip to Vegas, to get married (I know, yawn ;) ) 2 weeks today. Long story short my future MIL has not booked her travel yet. She's wanting to fly from Edinburgh via as few connections as possible (and preferrably not via London as she got lost in Heathrow once!).
Due to her finances she won't be able to book till next week - currently it looks like Continental will be her best bet (Edin-Newark, Newark-Vegas). Not the cheapest at £823 return, but she'd be happy to pay that if it's the easiest option.
Does anyone have any good/bad experiences of Continental long haul flights?
Does anyone have any other clever routes she could use?
Our wedding is Sun 12 Sept, so as long as she is in Vegas for then, I'd appreciate any suggestions......
Thanks in advance, I've been lurking on here for a while and found out lots of useful info .... hopefully I'll be just as knowledgable once I've actually been:o
Also if anyone has good poker room suggestions for the OH then that'd be good. He's wanted to play poker in Vegas for 4yrs (since winning some good hands in Atlantic City) but hasn't done any research yet as to where to play!! His side of the family are very disorganised.

Hey wedding talk isnt boring! My 1st anniversary on Friday and I still bang on about it all the time... Have you had a look at Manchester - Vegas thomascook prices? I've read they sometimes drop nearer the date.... Edinburgh to Manchester isn't too bad on the train...can go down the east coast mainline and change in York, be fairly straight forward, pack her off the day before.

Have you had it planned for long? I'd be freaking out that she wasnt booked up!

Oh Happy Anniversary for Friday :T
We (me, OH & DS) and my parents are all booked on Thomas Cook from Manchester - not the best option but we booked the week of the 1st volcano disruption and just blind panicked about how to ensure we got home ok. Also booked before I found this thread, so would probably not do this again..... (getting the excuses in before anyone tells me I'm a numpty!). However, we called about a month ago to get price for FMIL but the flights are full... To be fair we only booked it in Apr, but am annoyed as she immediately told us &anyone that'd listen) that she was coming.... Now it is just another headache we could do without.

Thanks Triker, unfortunately being a SAHM my Exec BA Card (which I did have) is no longer valid so I can't see the deals on offer. Do you know if I rejoin, would I be able to book any good deals for FMIL, or would she need to join herself?

Just start inputting flight from to and dates, sale fares are on there now. :D You don't need your exec account for that.;)

You can add her to your household account, I think it has an option for retrieving your data, you could try re registering and it'll soon tell you if they have your details, maybe they'll prompt password via email.

Sorry just had a looksy for you but couldn't see anything obvious.

Thanks for that - I had a quick check too but the immediate options take her through Heathrow, which is where she wants to avoid at all costs. There's options via KLM but Continental just seems the easiest. Cheers for your input.

Delta flight from Gatwick is great. I used this on an earlier trip to Dallas. The leg from Gatwick to Atlanta is a fine flight - a bit over 8 and a half hours. Comfy seats, pleanty of legroom in economy. Join the Skymiles programme on-line and you can pre-select your seats on-line (not exit rows unfortunately). Also, on-line check-in and just a bag drop at Gatwick. They are now offering free wine or beer with the meals in economy too.

The leg from Atlanta to LV isn't too shabby, typical internal flight and just over 3 and a half hours. Both legs are shorter than indicated on the websites etc. Quite a delay at the bag reclaim in LV though.

Picked-up the car from Alamo - the Quicksilver pick-up didn't work, so bit of a queue. Also, although I had the 'Gold' package through Carehire 3000, it didn't include roadside assistance. So another $40 as we may head out to Death Valley.

The Carriage House is pretty much as expected. We quite like apartments in UK city breaks. Clean and comfy, close to the strip.

We went out to see the fountains at Bellagio, 10:15 pm show. Wife very impressed. But, it's like walking around in a fan oven here - about 39c even at this time if night.

Hit the ABC minimart in the Miracle Mile, stocked-up on bottled water and some beers, oh and milk for the coffee - advantage of the apartment having a full size kitchen and fridge freezer.

Anyway, it's now quarter to 8 UK time and quarter to midnight here. wev'e been on the go since six yesterday morning (UK time) - so time to hit the sack!

Will post more later in the trip -thanks to everyone who's given advice prior to this trip:T:T:T

Continental from Edinburgh is a good option. We are flying out on Tuesday with them from Edi, having done it before with no problems. It allows you to stretch your legs after the 7 hour flight to Newark, then you only have another 5 to Vegas. The prices seem to go up nearer the time but I would suggest she books asap. I work at Edinburgh Airport and the 2 flights per day are usually full, its a really popular one!

Rumors that Madonna may be about to sign a 5 year deal for residence in Vegas for a reported $1 BILLION, that is $547,945.21 a day. The figures have been worked out and if she does the same schedule as CD it would be $1 million a performance, not so unbelievable as that would mean tickets would have to cost about $250 each,(assuming it is the Coliseum) but would be subsidised by the casino as they would expect you to see the show and then lose a couple of hundred.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
