is it going downhill ?? i was always amazed they let tramps beg on that bridge between NYNY and MGM .
anyone reading this discussion who has never been , will be thinking the whole place is dodgy to walk around . it's not folks, it's very safe with basic precautions . certainly nothing like as bad as aaverage UK town centre on friday night closing time.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

That is the most sensible answer yet , some newbies must be thinking twice about going with some of the replies , stop scaring people.
VEGAS IS SAFE.I eat time share touts for breakfast 2 for 10 -
I find the strip itself very safe, simply due to the number of people around constantly! I do find it a little bit iffy off strip at times though. Eg, over by Ellis Island there's a shut down petrol station on the way there from Platinum and I found that a bit iffy on my own when I popped over to EI from Plat for a takeaway pizza.
Similarly when we stayed off strip before and walked back at night it felt a little 'eerie' but maybe not really unsafe. Between Plaza and Main Street Station we were threatened by a guy out his face completely out of the blue. He said he'd 'shoot our effin faces off'. Nice. Probably a total empty threat which we completely ignored, he probably didn't even know what he was saying.
I think generally though where you get that much money, gambling, there are unfortunately other addictions and some poor souls end up in a bit of a predicament, and turn to crime instead of straightening themselves up. It would be unwise of them to target anyone in a busy area, so just use caution where there's not many people around. I find the area up by the Riviera iffy, just because it's quite quiet. And I have noticed that downtown itself seems to be reasonably safe, however this is because security are constantly kicking undersirables out into the outskirts which then become a bit unsafe.
I wouldn't think the average tourist being sensible has anything to worry about though.0 -

I also agree and don't mean to scare the newbies! I've said before that I am pretty sure I would be OK walking down the strip with $100 bills taped to my person. So many people, so much security...I do think some places at least feel more iffy, and think probably those cautioning some are just wanting people to be aware. I also think it's down to what you're used to especially if it's your first time to Vegas. If you're used to wandering around UK town centres on friday night closing time then most places anyone is likely to go will seem fine. If you're not, then some areas may make people feel a bit uncomfortable, even if they really are probably in no danger at all.
I was always one that surprised my friends the places I was OK wandering around by myself when I lived in the US...but there are a couple of places in Vegas that I felt uncomfortable. We've walked from Bally's to EI before several times and know it's fine, but agree with lesley74 - to look around, you do feel a bit like it may not be the best place to be wandering...if newbies know it may look dodgy but none of us have ever had any problems, then they will know what to expect.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
the most dangerous environment i've ever been in in vegas, is walking down between all those mexicans with porno cards lol0

October , NovemberI live in a very small town. The next largest town centre nearby is far more scary at night than most of the popular areas of Las Vegas.0

MayI feel very safe in Vegas. As I said, I just felt uncomfortable near CC later on at night. It was busy, but there seemed to be lots of younger "hoodie" type people around. They probably weren't any trouble at all, it was just the difference from the rest of the strip.
We have walked from Bally's to EI at night and still felt safe. However we were a bit more aware of our surroundings and anyone we passed.0 -
AprilI know we're not the only ones who will be in Vegas on 16th October, so in case this interests anyone else - the Hoover Dam Bypass open to pedestrian traffic only that day.

The Bridging America website has an RSVP form - but not a lot more info.
We're thinking about going as it seems like it may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
