MayWhen we first went to Vegas in 1988 we walked from the Sahara to downtown and back and I can't remember it seeming that long. Now when we pass that route on the bus it seems like miles.
We never used a bus the whole time we were there and walked everywhere. We walked from the Sahara to Caesars and thought that was the bottom of the strip!
We walked from Wynn to the Steakhouse at CC after a show which was OK. However when we came out after dinner at around 10.30-11.00pm I felt quite uncomfortable in that area. It was quite busy with a lot of undesirables.0 -
AprilHow dodgy is the area around Fremont Street? Just booked a Fri-Sat night stay at El Cortez which is a block from it. It is an excellent weekend price of £27/night for a Cabana room but I am now getting a little concerned with all the comments...... Is it fine to walk from the hotel to the Fremont Street late at night?0

AugustI think someone has already mentioned that it's not advisable to wander to far from the lights of freemont street.Never been to El Cortez so can't really comment on that. One year though,we were on freemont street late at night, and walked to the transportation centre, which is only a short distance away, and even then came across a few drunks, and looneys.Didn't feel happy till we got to the bus depot.0

October , NovemberThe walk from Fremont Street to El Cortez is fine in my opinion. We had friends staying in the Cabana Suites in May and walked with them (via the Gold Spike) late one night. It's not as scary as some people make out. As long as you're not drunk as a skunk and acting normally, you should have no problems whatsoever.
The East Fremont district is the part that Oscar Goodman is promoting and it has several nice bars and clubs along the way from Hennessey's to El Cortez.
There were plenty of drunks and looneys on the strip last time we were there.0 -

October , NovemberThe Cabana rooms were small, but very nice. There was only a shower in the room we looked in, don't know if that is standard. The reception area was very nice and there is a small gym for you to use. I'll see if I can find my friend's photos.0

I do agree that in most places if you use some common sense you'll be absolutely fine. I think sometimes it's the difference between walking the 'better' part of the strip and the 'worse' part of the strip or downtown...it may not be much more dangerous, but it feels a bit icky and moreso in comparison to how we feel on the strip...if that makes sense. We just feel a bit on edge walking in the less savoury areas even if we know it's probably absolutely fine, we just don't really like it.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I totally understand how you feel. To be honest though, last trip I got more scared in the area by Excalibur/NYNY than I did anywhere Downtown.0
