Going to Vegas in less than a month now, and one of the things I've left till the last minute is the mullah, the wonga, the dollar, the money! Would you experienced travellers recommend Cash (a lot in big bills) or Travellers Cheques for a 6 day holiday involving six fellas between the ages of 21-25, we are all looking at taking around a $1000 dollars each. Cheers.

Yes, however I'm only 21yrs old myself, and currently I don't wish to jump onto the slippery credit card slope just yet. Would you recommend opening a Nationwide Account to obtain the Flexaccount Visa Debit Card for a six day overseas, or what I've spent today looking, at Prepaid Cards (i.e. the ones the Travel Agencies supply or the ones this site recommends FairFx, Carton, etc). Thanks for the help so far guys.

EDIT: Checking them out, the fees and what not look great for FairFx and Caxton, but what is putting me off is that the Travel Agents (i.e. Tommy Cooks and Thomson) offer emergency cash replacement if the card is lost or stolen, yet it looks like the likes of Fair and Caxton do not.

I'm posting something that was forwarded to me. I won't be in the States this year, so cannot verify either the offer, or the website. Maybe someone else can do that. So, Caveat Emptor and all that, I did go through the first section and it seemed to work.

    1) Go to www.restaurant.com

Yes, the 60/70/80/90% codes are posted here regularly and many of us use restaurant.com quite a lot - the codes do work...but Froggitt's point is very important and I'd be slightly worried that anyone following the instructions as written (I know not by you) would end up with 3 relatively worthless certificates if they only had one trip planned. I think that the certificates now have no expiry so it's not quite as tragic as it would have been before they expired after a year...I'm just monumentally surprised that the person who wrote the original instructions didn't think to point this out. :)

I don't think that you could even give the certificates to other diners in the restaurant...since I assume (could be wrong) that the one per month per restaurant is tied to the certificate number and the person who bought them - not the person redeeming them. You could of course give them to others who might be able to use them at least a month later...but not buying them in the first place might be the better bet.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Indeed. But worth it.

We would also vouch for Rosemary's - outstanding food and service when we went.

I personally check the convention checker and find a similarly 'busy' week in October this year, to one for next year (the big conventions should be on there by now - it would give you an idea of what the room prices for the same period next year might be - make sure you use the links in the first post for the best offers)

I'd then subtract that from the total that Virgin are charging and see how much that leaves you with... then do a few random flight searches to gauge average price of flights in October... (i'd help further but i'm not familiar with pricing on kiddy-winks!)

it's not an exact science but will give you a rough idea of things HOWEVER, conventions / school holidays may clash if you do it that way so beware!

edit: actually, scrap the above, i didn't explain it very well and don't want to misguide you :)

I was going to ask if you'd priced up the flights on their own with Virgin Atlantic (assume the above is from Virgin Holidays?), but then realised they won't be available yet for October 2011 as it's too far in advance.

Virgin flights for THIS October going from Gatwick (the Manchester flight isn't available until next year) are currently silly money, £700+ per adult. I'm guessing it's because of half term? Will it be school holidays when you're looking at next year? Just the flights for the same dates this year would cost you £2087.60 with Virgin at the moment, which would make £2224 a pretty good deal with 7 nights accommodation, but I've no idea if that's because you've missed the decent fair deals for this year or just because of school holidays. Like nvh I've no idea what a child flight would normally cost compared to an adult so it makes it tricky to say what a 'good' price on the flights would be.

For what it's worth I've always thought Virgin Holidays to be overpriced compared to booking flights + hotels separately but I know some people prefer to book a package for whatever reason.
