MayMGM Grand adding RESORT FEE !!!!!
lifted from Vegasmessageboard
Apparently beginning on July 5th, MGM is going to charge you a resort fee. This, according to their website is "for your convenience". So, "for your convenience" they will take that $10 out of your pocket. I have stayed at MGM the past 3 years; however now because of the resort fee, it looks like I will be staying somewhere else for my Vegas trips.
Here is the info from MGM's website:
For your convenience, beginning on June 7th for arrivals after July 4th, a daily resort fee of $10 plus tax is added to your room account and includes the following hotel services: Complimentary high speed internet, $15 beverage credit per stay available at any MGM Grand-owned bar, daily USA Today newspaper, local and toll free numbered calls, limited Business Center Services such as outgoing faxes, copies, notary, and boarding pass printing.
Thanks for the info.
This will actually save me money as I currently pay $13.99 for daily internet access.
Wondering if the maid will deliver the newspaper when she services the room seeing as everyone will now be entitled to one.
I've yet to receive the "free daily newspaper" at any of the hotels I've stayed at where it was supposed to be included including the Signature and the Four Seasons.0 -
SeptemberThe first time we stopped at the Signature the paper was outside the door every morning so I guess someone walks round and puts them out at night but last time we only had one I think (not that we were bothered we didnt really want it anyway) but we did close the doors in front of your room doors as my parents were in the room next to us so dont know if that had anything to do with it.0

First of all I want to say a quick thanks to the contributors in this thread. As a long-time lurker (going back to the 2007 thread) the information has saved me plenty of cash and provided countless ideas in my 4 trips!
Re the above though, does anybody know if the resort fee will apply to rooms booked before it was introduced/made compulsory? I have a booking with MGM (an offer kindly posted by pennylane99) and this will obviously influence whether or not to change the booking.
Thanks in advance.
I for one (and I am not alone) think these resort/hidden fees are shocking. I think they should all be upfront and be included in the nightly rate from the start.
As for having them applied on existing bookings I would think by reading the t and c that they will be, as there is no mention of them not being added IYSWIM

No its as clear as it can be that the resort fee is only going to be charged for bookings made from June 7th onwards.
We've been down this road before on whether resort fees are good or bad.
We don't have the need to post a message every ten minutes while in Vegas so just use the freebie locations (if we aren't staying at the Signature) usually, so don't gain from that, and the gym (if included in the deal) is good/bad. Yes we'll use the gym but it entices too many people to use it (to get their money's worth) and there's nothing worse than a packed gym!
With so many deals at the moment for 2/3 night stays I wonder if the hotels really want customers to stay for more than the usual USA short vacation duration. For those staying in Vegas for a week or longer I wonder what percentage chase the "$15 beverage credit oer stay" type of deal. If they made it $15 per day would they entice people to stay longer and using the airline analogy high a load factor, or does the amount of income generated fall off for longer stays?0 -
