  • It def said 118 on the limo coach when we got married - that was probably just the heat in their since the AC had broken! I do remember watching the news every morning and it being all its getting hotter. I managed fine in the wedding dress anyway!

Oh well, I got my arm twisted again!! Funny we both sit down after we arrive back home and seem to complain about things, and within a few weeks she is saying "when we going back again". So booked 2 reward Clubworld seats with BA for end of May (thanks to more than 150,000 Tesco redemptions) Still costing over £700 in taxes and fees though, ouch!
Also dumped the idea of AC and going to Miami for a cruise and stay in November, (AA reward flights). So yesterday i managed to book 2 holidays in less than 1 hour.

2 in one hour! That sounds like my idea of a perfect day.
I found that when I've been in there before now... It's only the name that it has going for it. The location is awful!

    10 days and I'll be there :):):)

I don't mind being a bit of strip - the hard rock isnt that far out and has got a lot going on, and free shuttles too the strip. I think for the younger crowd, its got some of the best bars/clubs/pool parties, if i was going on a hen/stag week id consider it.

2nd of September till i leave for my NY/Vegas holiday - I cannot wait!
  • October , November
Looks like we have narrowed it down to either the MGM or Planet Hollywood for our October lads holiday.

The MGM mainly because of the pool! Firstly, if we're not guests at the MGM can we still go in and use the pool? I don't mind paying if its a great pool area! And secondly, in October will much of the pool area be open?

I've always booked flights and hotel separatley in Vegas, and used the Vegas Promotions website to get deals on hotels. But I've noticed everyones cutting back on deals recently - and there are some great flight+hotel deals on expedia.co.uk. For our dates, we were offered £769 for a flight out of Heathrow and 7 nights at Planet Hollywood. Would it still be cheaper to book flights now, and wait a little longer for the hotel deals? Or shall we jump in with expedia and just book it now?

Great trip report and photos!! I loved reading it, you guys seem to have similar overall likes and dislikes to us. Also, one day your hubby and mine should share war stories about the crazy sleepy rantings. :)

Maybe we're secretly having conversations with each other :rotfl:
Glad you enjoyed the report. I'm already whining to hubby about going back (a detour as part of our canada trip in Sept/Oct). I can't keep away..... :D

About car hire, I've booked with CarHire 3000 3 or 4 times now. Really easy, up front pricing, good cancellation policy etc if your plans change. I'll be bookign again with them for my next trip :)
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!

No you can't use the MGM pool unless you are a guest as they check room keys. Not sure if you can get into the (paid for) Wet Republic if you are not a guest.

Most of the MGM pools should still be open in October although some may only open at the weekend.

As for package v flight and hotel separate, you will have to price the flight on its own and see what you have left for the hotel. There haven't been many PH offers around if that's where you want to stay. The pool at PH isn't great, just a basic rectangle surrounded by a sunbathing area.

    Twitter Thursday!

We asked what you were looking for as your #MGMthursday offer and we listened!

    This weeks offer includes:

    * $1 upgrade to a bungalow suite

Thanks luci Just booked for Xmas week again. It works out to about $730 for 7 nights from 24 -31 inc resort fee. More than last year's Bellagio bargain but they haven't got anything on offer at the moment so I thought it best to jump in on MGMGrand's. Compared to other places quoting at the moment it's not a bad price for over Xmas especially in view of the fact that its for a bungalow room. I've also booked 19 - 24th on maximum escape promo $39 room rate (in tower room) Code sdm085. I can now relax a bit and just keep looking for cheapish flight sales, and if a better room deal comes up I can always cancel these dates, which is what I love about booking in Vegas. It makes it so much fun when you have loads of time like me (retired) to keep searching for a bargain. Still fancy a couple of nights downtown at GN again I really enjoyed that whole Freemont Street experience last year.

Just a little query - does anyone happen to have been staying at any hotel when they've introduced the resort fee after you booked without one?

I'm wondering how they do it - do you get the free gym pass, wifi etc without the resort fee? Or do they police it properly?

    Thanks

No direct personal experience, but I would assume (could be wrong) that for the internet access you will still have to log on as normal (room number and name)...so if it happens that you weren't paying the resort fee because you booked before it came in, you would be taken to the screen confirming the fee would be charged to your room/giving you the option to pay separately by credit card. For the gym, I'd imagine it would be by room key or at least number/name and the attendant would check if it was a room inclusive of resort fee or exclusive of.

As for Wynn/Encore's resort fee - that one will annoy me since it's not great value for us...we would still get the internet access so it wouldn't be a straight $20 extra...but still.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Thanks Ferf.

Can't help but feeling that the resort fee debarcle misses out on the whole point of vegas - which is surely to escape the wifi and gym! The fact that it's not included upfront is nothing more then morally wrong!

As for car hire. There is never one company that does the best deal. You need to use a scrapper like the one on moneysupermarket.com. Sometimes it comes up with carhire300, sometimes Eurocar, sometimes another company. We always though check whether there is a cancelation fee, or a "no excess" on the damage included.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

We were in the Hard Rock this afternoon and it was DEAD! One good thing was that there were more cocktail waitresses than gamblers, bad thing was I was driving.
I must admit I never liked the place. We only ever went there when they had a good offer in the ACG. $25 matchplay each, $10 free slot play each that you could just cash out , 2 free drinks each at the bar, ahhhh those were the days.
