Okay guys some great news to share . Me and Mrs Trets have just returned from the Hospital and are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our first child on 1st of December. today was our 12 week scan and everything showing okay so far .

Obviously trips to Las Vegas are not going be possible for the forseeable future , but i will still be a regular visitor here . i'm sure you will all understand if it's not quite so regular , and i have less advice and knowledge to impart .

    Congratulations !

    Thanks photome and WestHamDaz.
Photome, are you someone who likes it scorching hot, or are you like us, have to go in school holidays. We went to Vegas in August 2006 and to be honest it's too hot for us.But needs must, and at least it's better being in Vegas in August than in Orlando....Never doing that again. Also been in Vegas In March,October and November and ideally would prefer any of those options.
WestHamdaz, Thanks for that, will print a copy off myself, quite happy to argue with them if neccessary......Being a West Ham fan for 40 odd years has made me an argumentative old sod.....So my wife says.:rotfl:

as a guide £400 - £450 is a reasonable price for a flight nowdays . i doubt very much you will be less than £400 .

What Trets means is 400-450 is what you might pick a flight up for at the moment if you want to fly in May. if you want a flight in July you'll be looking at 650+ before prices fall back down again.

I still live in hope that BA come up with a monster sale once the industrial action is sorted to.

Think ba has a lot more hurdles to cross before the industrial action threat will be over

July august is always 600-700 for a flight if anyone finds one cheaper please shout

    Interesting - thanks!

The exalibur deal in th nice room works out at £48 per night (that includes the resort tax), and thats the cheapest I've seen so far...

Perhaps I should just hold off and keep a look out (We're there 15-20 September).

If you want a very cheap hotel either of those are OK there is npothing wrong with the rooms in CC, I havent stayed at Excalibur.
My guess is those widescreen rooms are ok at Excalibur, i dont know what the pool is like but CC pool is rubbish.

It depends what you want (pool, location etc)and more importantly how much you want to pay. I usually budget about £40 (roughly $60 to $70 a night) and for that price you can do better than either of those.

MGM, Flamingo, Paris, Ballys to name a few

BUT if you only want to pay $24 or was it $29 a night( I would book a room at that price and then try for an upgrade at check in with my $20 in my hand) then I wouldnt put you off staying at the Excalibur

Thanks for this - have signed up for the emails..

Some great deals for Excalibur or Circus Circus....

For a first timer to vegas.. would you recommend these?

As others have said, you can do a lot better for not much more money...but it just depends on what is important to you and what sort of budget you have. We stayed at Excalibur our first few trips (before they upgraded anything) - always in a room in Tower II - I think we normally got upgraded to a deluxe room of some sort which was a good size, clean, a bit bland, didn't have a bath (not an issue for us, but some don't like showers or want a bath)...but it was absolutely fine. Is it the best option out there? No, but it's quite inexpensive and (IMHO) a better choice over CC which I really don't like...location-wise Excalibur is better as it's closer to other options.

A lot of it depends on what you are used to - if you're used to 3* or less European hotels, you'll likely be quite pleased with Excalibur. But for not a lot more money, you can really get something awesome at a fraction of the price you would pay in Europe.

There's no right or wrong here - if you just want a place to lay your head and want to keep costs down, Excalibur will be fine. If you want to take the opportunity to spend a bit more for the sort of luxury you would struggle to find in Europe for 2x or 3x (maybe more) the cost in Europe, you can do that too.

A December baby too...vow now to make it special for the kid - because December birthdays are kinda crap. :)
