    3 things
1 this is without a doubt the best las vegas travel thread ever!, so we did so deserve a mention in the email
2 i love the 20$ trick, even if it doesnt work its stilll a buzz when your doing it..
3 anyone been to reno? thought may visit there next time for a weekend trip?
And waste 2 nights that you could be in Vegas:eek:
No honestly, we thought about it once, but it soon passed:D
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Does anyone know if restaurant.com typically has a 80% off promo code every month? And if so, does it tend to be released towards the end of the month or the start?

    Cheers
Yes, at least for the last few months that I have been monitoring. The 80% starts later in the month when all the popular vouchers have been sold out.
If you go to flyertalk.com forums under the FlyerTalk Forums > Miles&Points > S.P.A.M. there is a thread where you can follow the past discounts ;)

If you recall the Top Gear episode where they tested the muscle cars on the salt flats they stayed in Reno for a night and described it as 'a kharzi'

I just need to persuade my husband to give the $20 trick a go - he's a bit shy and seems to think it's all a myth (and yes I've showed him this thread etc!) So unless I do check in myself which might look a tad strange with my husband stood beside me - I've got some persuading to do!

    :rotfl:

It wouldnt look strange! he doesnt even need to be beside you. I always check in alone, with $20 in my hand (nearly always works), leaving my wife, son and bags sitting comfortably somewhere
    EDIT
I see it has already been commented on,hadnt read the other posts before posting

Have a look at www.vegastripping.com it has some great honest reviews on there with pictures & videos. I read the latest on the 'Aria' & it looks great (check out the toilet!! and the bath in the window...). The reviewer does talk about 'bugs' in the electronic system with it being a new hotel, but says that when (if!) ironed out it will be wonderful to stay there.
I think you might struggle to beat the Encore for 'wow' factor though! Why not try the Red Rock Resort off-strip instead? It looks fab :D

Mmmmm, I was considering Aria, Vdara looks a wee bit expensive for me but Aria might do the trick; it's central, near PH (which we liked last year), and still within a suitable walk of MGM and NYNY.

I'll keep an eye open for Aria deals, methinks - I can live with troubled electrics; but if the TV doesn't work and there's no Fox Sports I will be requesting a room change until I find a working TV system ;-)

Ah - but I do think its differeent for a woman to check in and leave her husband sitting on the side with the bags. It shouldn't be, but it is. That said - maybe he'll need to take an important business call at the moment of check in!

Don't get me wrong - I'm no little wifey sitting on the side and I'd love to do it all - but I also have to respect my husbands wishes! He likes to think he's wearing the pants!

I don't think it's different at all. I always check us in. If I waited for him to do it, we'd get nowhere fast.

Have had a couple of real toe curling moments trying the $20 trick. Once at Planet Hollywood the check in girl flicked the $20 back at me and refused all efforts at eye contact....i can still hear the sniggers now at the people in line behind me. And another time at the Flamingo i was loudly told "sir i dont take bribes"!

Other times i have got room upgrades just by asking with a smile. Got a huge suite with a fantastic bar area at the Hilton and a strip view room with big bathroom on 25th floor at Mirage without trying the $20 trick.
