I don't think it's down to the money, but rather in the way you ask sometimes. I'm not suggesting for a second that emattuk asked 'the wrong way', but I think that certain check in staff don't take well to certain phrases. It's all about the way you ask as well as what you say, I suspect!

It'd be really interesting to pull together a list of what people actually asked for when slipping a $20 (or higher) in their passports.

My dollars arrived from Crown Currency today as promised (first time using them and unless the bills are counterfeit, it's been brilliant - since the dollar has dropped we've made enough for a nice meal by ordering through them). They are still advertising decent rates if anyone else is interested.

One week today we will be in the air - can't wait!!:j

Honestly it wouldn't look odd at all and most families rather than all stand in line have one person do it and the other look after the bags somewhere out of other people's way rather than shuffle bags along the queue.

If you are the one confident about doing it but he needs the macho ego massaging then surely you're doing the hunter gatherer a big favour by letting him look after those oh so heavy bags whilst you simply handle the little light creditcard ;) It's all in how you present it :rotfl::rotfl:

The Harrah's buffet looks great (is Ballys not included though?)

Bally's hasn't had a buffet for years and when they did it wasn't that great.

Does anyone know if restaurant.com typically has a 80% off promo code every month? And if so, does it tend to be released towards the end of the month or the start?

    Cheers

It's usually toward the end of the month when a lot of the good certs have sold out. However it's worth constantly checking as I have also seen 80% off around the 10th of the month recently.

Did you not order yesterday when I posted the COOK code?

Ah, that explains that then! Oh well, whilst we're not big buffet fans it could be useful on a day when you need to dip in and out of places to eat and drink, or when funds are running low for lunch...

I always do the checking in. Like pebbles, I would wait forever for the OH to do it. He certainly wouldn't try the $20 trick although he loves to tell people of my successes with it.

My first few trips I would just hold the $20 in my hand and ask if there were any complimentary upgrades available. Now, having stayed in so many different rooms, I'm not so fussed about a strip/fountain view.

The first time we checked into Paris I decided not to bother trying it as I had read that most people were offered a paid upgrade when they tried. At first the guy said they only had Queen rooms left, which we were about to accept. Then he said a King had just become available (this was early evening so I don't know if housekeeping would still have been working then) and it was a Red Room Luxury which was normally an extra $40/night.

I quickly scrambled in my purse and tipped him $20 so it was a genuine tip and not a bribe.

I found it worked well at PH and Bellagio, but not at MGM.

Not sure whether to try it at the Encore seeing as we are there at a weekend and there basic rooms are excellent anyway. Not sure what I would be hoping for.

I did order some, for Border Grill and Tacone. I wanted some B&J ones though as they were all sold out. They are in stock now but alas, no code!

Thanks for your advice though :)
