JuneEven if you don't get an upgrade on your plane, be sure to mention that its your 10th anniversary upon check-in alongside the usual trick rules - might work towards getting you an extra special room.
I just need to persuade my husband to give the $20 trick a go - he's a bit shy and seems to think it's all a myth (and yes I've showed him this thread etc!) So unless I do check in myself which might look a tad strange with my husband stood beside me - I've got some persuading to do!

My advice has always not to be ambiguous about the tip. If you do as some say put it between your CC and ID and let it peak out then they might not know what you are doing. We use 2 methods, put it in your passport unfolded so they know how much is there (BTW we always use $40 because of staying 7 or more nights) then as the passport opens the money falls onto the desk and say either "and that is my upgrade voucher" (thanks to tretts for that one) or more often I just say "and that is for you if you can get me a nice whatever* room" If they can't do anything for you they will just hand the money back, simples!
*It pays to research the hotel for different types of rooms and know what you want for the tip. Something like a strip view room could just be basic rooms that face out towards the strip that you only have to ask for anyway without tipping. Tipping is only required if you want something that would cost you extra money, like a larger end room with double sided view or upgraded amenities and fabrics like a "Red Room" in Paris. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
December ( including Xmas and New Year )I am taking my wife & two kids in December to celebrate by wifes' 40th. Has anyone got any opinions on the best hotels? We all want to be in one room and the kids are 13(boy) & 10(girl). I think this is the last year I can get away with them sharing a bed. I have been looking at ebookers and they are coming up at £440 for 5 nights plus resort fee ($100) for the Signature at MGM. This seems a reasonable price! Or is it worth me waiting nearer the time as December does not seem to be that busy.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

JulyNeeding a spot of help: second week of September, we're off for 10 days (post Civil Partnership 'holiday'). The Mrs has booked the Encore for our 2nd 5 days, so I need something mid/south-mid strip (not as far south as Mandalay Bay) that's going to wow her... Bellagio doesn't appeal and she doesn't fancy MGM either. Was thinking of the Spa Suite at NYNY - any other recommendations?
Have a look at www.vegastripping.com it has some great honest reviews on there with pictures & videos. I read the latest on the 'Aria' & it looks great (check out the toilet!! and the bath in the window...). The reviewer does talk about 'bugs' in the electronic system with it being a new hotel, but says that when (if!) ironed out it will be wonderful to stay there.
I think you might struggle to beat the Encore for 'wow' factor though! Why not try the Red Rock Resort off-strip instead? It looks fab0 -

JuneWhy would it look strange ?
I guess we just usually work as a traditional unit (not condemning any other method!) I would happily check in but husband would feel it "wrong"
But maybe I just need to talk him round!
Stoneman - regretfully my days of being female and having some sway with a male check in clerk are long gone! Twin children will do that to you!0 -
