Have you had one of the seats with no padding yet? or have you had a seat without IFE, have they run out of food or alchohol before they get to you (I dont drink on planes soo that doesnt bother me) All things that are very real on the gatwick/Vegas flight

I do think I have a bony bum thoigh as my wife doesnt complain like I do..

I agree that those things do happen more frequently on that flight than on others we've been on...though we have had IFE issues with most major airlines. :)

It's all relative to what you're used to/have experienced before...for some it will be better than what they were expecting, for others it will be much worse. We're flying with AA again this trip which in our experience is so much better than Virgin, even with a change (something I never thought I would say). Pairs of seats on both sides - so much better chance for a couple to grab them, much newer and nicer planes, better IFE, better food, better cabin crew (not had any terrible experiences with Virgin, but they're way more aloof than the folks on the AA flights we've been on).

I do have to say I feel deeply sorry for WestHamDaz...unless the gods are with them and they happen to be the lucky ones who very occasionally get a new plane on that route, I cannot imagine that this will be a happy experience. Even PE on the Vegas route isn't particularly worthwhile, though compared to economy it's something...have to say I am eager to read that trip report. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

i'll give an honest appraisal of the whole experience dont worry! Ive had a wide range of experiences on flights, from excellent business class, to some absolute ropey as hell african airlines where you do question yourself as you board as to whether you will actually reach its intended destination in one piece. However bad the virgin 747 may be it cant be as bad as the us airways plane i had flying to philly. it was so old i think the wright brothers were the first pilots of it. no in seat tv's let alone AVOD, a big projector and and screen at the front of each cabin and be grateful. As for the seats, well words cant explain how bad these were, and this was in business class too.

I think I can stomach 10 hours on a virgin 747 if it means getting me to vegas quicker. IFE isnt a problem, ipod and PSP are fully loaded with enough films games and music, however the thought of them running out of vodka 10 mins after take off is the real worry!

Just in a state of panic, checked flight details for our outbound flight and Delta have changed the connection time in Atlanta. We arrive in Atlanta at 6pm and the flight leaves for Vegas at 7.10pm

Is there any hope that we will make this connection? I am assuming that they wouldn't change the time if there was no hope, we are flying from the same Terminal in Atlanta which is good I guess, but now I am so worried.

If we miss the connection what will happen? I am so scared Delta will put us on another flight but not until the next morning or something, meaning we miss out on a whole night in Vegas.

I don't know what to do , what would happen to our luggage for example?

Anyone been in this position before? We have booked direct with Delta but dont think there are earlier flights out of heathrow.

Panic over, just got off the phone with Delta and they have moved the connecting flight to 9.50pm giving plenty of time, free of charge. The agent said it would be highly unlikely we would make the las vegas flight. Glad it's sorted and would rather wait almost 4 hours for a flight than rush like headless chickens trying to get a near on impossible flight, even if it means getting to vegas quite a bit later

Delta are good with stuff like that..........as are American.

I had an agent at Delta in the US look through just about every combination to find me a seat a day earlier when I changed my flight last week. Still can't work out how she did it as the flight is already slightly overbooked so I might very well attempt a bump as there's some good alternatives later in the day and I have no problem going from Gatwick to Heathrow in exchange for a goodly contribution towards my next flight ;)

You would have been better staying with the 7pm, you would have made it no problem, and if you hadn't they would have put you on the 9:50 anyway. Now you have nearly 4 hours to spend in one of the worst airports I have been in. Might have been an idea to wait for advice on here first as a lot of us have transited through ATL.
On 2 occasions we had transfers of less than 50 minutes to catch connections at ATL and made them both. The airline have a system that tells them what connections are possible and if it was not would not have given you that flight to catch.
ATL is really small and if you were transiting through the same terminal you can walk from one end to the other in 5 minutes
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Sorry stoneman, I can't agree with you. I have been through ATL 3 times recently with a connection time of 65 minutes or so. Although I did make my connections, I was a sole traveller and EVERYTIME it was a mad rush and panic and in 2 cases my case did not make it. I agree that if your connection is from the same terminal then you should be ok but ATL is the busiest airport in the world with 7 terminals and the chances of your connection being in the same terminal is low not to mention any flight delays. Sometimes it might be best to play safe than rely on seat availability in a later flight (uncommon I know but the later flight could be full). I now ensure I have atleast 90 minutes but preferably 120 min.

    :)

Sorry I don't agree Stoneman -There's no guarantee of getting on the last flight of the day. This way they aren't spending the transatlantic flight worrying what will happen -and there is nothing to stop them asking if they can switch to the earlier flight before they recheck baggage at ATL.

ATL btw is the one of the LARGEST airports in the US (it shares the title of largest US airport by passenger volume in the US with Chicago) not "really small" and many connections include a terminal change. It has a really efficient transit system though.

Would I have taken that earlier connection myself ? Yes-but only because I have frequent flyer status with Delta so I'd get priority on getting on the later flight, know my way around the airport and only travel with hand baggage. Otherwise I'd have taken the wait (and tried to standby for the earlier flight if I could)-Atlanta is a nice enough airport -nothing special but nothing awful either-plenty of eating places and shops to kill time in.

In the last year I've missed two Delta connections flying from London -the first I was rebooked onto the later Vegas connection with an extra stop BUT others on the flight weren't as fortunate and were rebooked the next morning and were told as it was weather related Delta weren't paying for their hotel -the second there were no more Delta flights to Vegas that day -as a frequent traveller I got rebooked on United but I did hear that some again had to wait til the next day.

I think Cloudy made the RIGHT choice :)

There you go, we must have been really lucky. Both of our trips went from the same terminal which was really small, about 30 gates as I remember. Just goes to show what a wide range of experiences you get
