Agree with Froggit - especially if you have 2 or more drivers, renting a car would (I think) be a much better option...it's a very straightforward drive (printed directions were fine for us - very, very straightforward route) and gives you more freedom on the day to set out as early as you want (jetlag being what it is, I could have seen us setting out about 4 am if it had been planned for our first day)....stay as long as you want, make stops along the way - Hoover Dam is obviously directly on the route there and the route back though you'd have to work the timings right to do the tour if you wanted to. Only potential benefit to a coach tour I can think of is all passengers can sleep if they want.
Thanks.. there's only two of us and my other half doesn't drive unfortunately. I don't fancy doing all the driving to be honest.
A nice power nap would be good on the way home before we go out in the evening!0 -
In fact, I might consider driving actually because most trips are saying you send 3-4 hours at the canyon and I think this is a bit excessive.
Is it a pretty basic drive to the south rim then?
If I did it, I'd probably just get a few pics by hoover dam and lake mead, bite to eat somewhere en route, 2 hours or so at the south rim, bite to eat on the way home and back to the hotel.
Google maps says it'd take roughly 5 hours non-stop, is this about right or could you do it quicker than that?
A few of those tours mentioned getting pictures by the route 66 sign, but I can't see that on any maps / directions I find?0 -
AprilWe've never seen a Cirque show and there seems to be quite a difference in ticket prices (eg vegas.com has 'O' at $183.50 whereas Mystere is only half that). Is there really that much difference or should we just go for one of the cheaper ones? (I don;t think I could bring myself to pay over £100 for a show lasting a couple of hours!)
Also, has anyone seen Matsuri? Any feedback appreciated.0 -
Dont go to Zumanity........total shiite. KA and LOVE both excellent.
Whats Matsuri?
Why not try out the new Elvis Cirque show.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

The new Hoover Dam bridge just opened.....I bet its pretty spectacular. IMHO pay to do the tour once youre there, or watch the documentary on SKY before you go.
At South Rim, go into the National Park, and theres a few official photo opportunity sites there, and a few hotels/places to eat. Not much more than a couple of hours from memory.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
SeptemberWhy not try out the new Elvis Cirque show. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

We(I) drove. It was easy, but a long trip! It is very easy, but also extremely boring. Don't try to drive\there and back in one day. I think I would have lost the will to live if I'd had to do that. We stayed at the Holiday Inn at Tusayan for about $50 per couple per night. It was a nice hotel, and we would definitely stay there if we went back to the GC. Seeing the GC at sunset and sunrise is magnificent. That is one of the things you can't do if you go on a short trip.0 -
Flamingo do not upgrade to a "go" room for a tip. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone have any sucess doing it (and beleive me, I have tried). They will upgrade to a small suite but they are dated. They will offer you an upgrade to a Go room when you check in but have no idea how much they charge
From numerous searches it would appear you're right. There's only about £60 in it between Ph and Flamingo, stuggling to decide between the 2. In honesty, I know ill barely be in the room, so think flamingo will be best, the pool looks awesome!0
