Heading back to Vegas this year and wanting to see the grand canyon this time.

We were weighing up the helicopter / plane tours but they're well out of our price range so it's looking like a coach tour instead.

Agree with Froggit - especially if you have 2 or more drivers, renting a car would (I think) be a much better option...it's a very straightforward drive (printed directions were fine for us - very, very straightforward route) and gives you more freedom on the day to set out as early as you want (jetlag being what it is, I could have seen us setting out about 4 am if it had been planned for our first day)....stay as long as you want, make stops along the way - Hoover Dam is obviously directly on the route there and the route back though you'd have to work the timings right to do the tour if you wanted to. Only potential benefit to a coach tour I can think of is all passengers can sleep if they want. :)

I love the Vegas Values report - I usually print it the Sunday before our trip so we can have a read through it while we're in-transit. :) That seems to be a particularly good find for anyone who will be playing at EI anyway.

  • Im hoping to get 2 weeks in Vegas booked for next September in the next few weeks.

Im using clubcard vouchers, so going through Virgin. I've narrowed it down to either PH or the Flamingo. Are the Gatwick flights still rubbish? My OH likes to have a good drink on the flight as he gets nervous, im wondering whether to bring a bottle :rotfl:

Ive read through pretty much everything and cant find it - do the Flamigo charge guests to use the pool? Also are PH's pool any good? I cant see much from the site. From reading they both have good points and bad points, we're not hugely fussy and im sure would be happy in either, would be interested in your opinions on which you prefer.

Strangly hubby wasnt totally sold on vegas when we got married there last year, but as the winter months have been so rubbish hes desperate to get back to that 110F heat :T

    I cant wait!!

If pool is important then the Flamingo is the one to go for and they don't charge guests to use it apart from the European (top optional) pool. No hotels charge their guest to use the pool.

The Flamingo pool is open to the public from 1pm so guests at any hotel can use it after that time.

Now thats the best suggestion over the past twenty pages or so.....cos of the time difference you walk up at some awful time in the night like 1am(as your body tells you its 9am in the UK), so you may as well get up and drive to the canyon to get there before 10am, including breakfast stop....Im sure theres an IHOP or Dennys on the way.

There's supposedly a Denny's in Kingman but we couldn't find it when we tried - so went to Cracker Barrell a little bit further along the interstate - we figured we'd see a sign for something and we did...a lesser-known American dining institution but important in its own right. :)

I know a few people are going @ Easter, so from FatWallet ( http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-discussion/704925/?start=2540 ) -- both offers expire on 15th Feb, valid for stays till end of April...

    $149 weekdays
    $199 weekends

    Palazzo

    Venetian

Thanks, beats my current price by $100 and I get a $50 slot credit too...
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!
  • thanks Luci - i think the Flamingo pool looks great, and we didnt have much pool time last holiday and would like to this time.

With staying for a 2 week spell are we less likely to get upgraded in the rooms? Virgin are looking at £400 extra for a go room in total for the 2 weeks, I would like a go room, but im guessing it will be cheaper to upgrade there, maybe try a $50 trick as its for so long.

Flamingo do not upgrade to a "go" room for a tip. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone have any sucess doing it (and beleive me, I have tried). They will upgrade to a small suite but they are dated. They will offer you an upgrade to a Go room when you check in but have no idea how much they charge
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
