just speculative musing here, so advice and imput desperately needed please.

Do you think it is possible to make a decent living by selling on ebay? I cant work because of illness and disability, although I list the things in our house it is only to de clutter and no way could I do loads and loads. My OH has just started a new job ater 9 months being unemployed and it is hard for me to cope when I am alone,

we were musing about him giving up his job which he hates and only pays £12000 a year, and becoming my carer and also starting an ebay business.

As I say this is probably pie in the sky, but do you is it possible with hardwork to make a decent living?

just a quick reply but hope it helps, if he is going to be claiming carers i presume you get DLA therefor you would only have to work 16 hours per week to get tax credits which are payable for self employed - be worth looking into a bit further.

another sale last night while sleeping - as i said in another thread the only time i'll make money lyin on my back!!!!!!!!!!!!! just been given another invoice woohoo only £7 but thats a bit closer to my £200 a month target - am worrying i may not hit it:cool: gonna update my signature now:j

  • Out of the stock I bought the other day I have sold 4 of one item, 2 of another item and none of the other 2 items, the ones I'm selling more of are the ones I didn't think I would sell many of, my Wholesaler didn't list anything interesting today so haven't bought anything else, was going to buy more of the item I'm selling most of but will wait until next week. I'm going to be praying I sell lots before the end of next week.

A question: If you had an item up for £14.75 with Best Offer, what would be the lowest offer that you would accept taking into account to buy the item was £7.50. Thanks

Am so glad I started as a Business again. Was just wondering though if OH works full time and I work as Self Employed and I get Child Tax Credits if I tell the Tax Credits people that I am working 16 or more hours would I be entitled to Working Tax Credits as well? Or is it best to keep to under 16 hours a week.

Haven't done anything towards the free listing day on Sunday, for some reason I just can't be bothered, must try and get some things done onto Turbolister and then copy them over on Sunday.

as for best offer look the cost of listing, fvf, and paypal fees.

as for the tax credits it is the family income they look at but you should tell them even if under 16 hrs. so very doubtful if you dont get already

if someone has DLA the qualifying working hours are 16 due to health problems but if no health problems and under 50 it has to be 30+ hours per, over 50 and its 16hrs under certain cirrcumstances as well if i remember correctly
(this is general advice as i dont actually work with tax credits and dont have my guidance to hand!!)

  • Oh crumbs, what am I going to do?!?

I had an item on sale for £6.50 BIN with £2.50 p&p to the uk. My listings say to contact me for international postage. I've just had a buyer (0 feedback) from the United States pay the £9 BIN price immeadiately, which is great except the item is going to cost £10.50 to send to the United States. What should I do about this? Is there any way I can invoice the buyer for more money?

    Thank you!

email the buyer and advise the excess postage of £8.00 and that item will not be shipped until recieved via paypal. i would go along the lines of thank you for your purchase but i do not seem to have recieved your email enquiring the cost of additional postage outwith the UK, the postage to the USA is £10.50 therefor i require excess payment of £8 before i can ship.
    thank you

  • Thank you for getting back to me so quickly skintbint! Can the buyer just send me the extra £8 or will I have to invoice them? Initially I thought I'd just send them an invoice for the extra £8 but it isn't an option on the dropdown list next to the item.

not sure but i'm sure floxxie or mrscmr will be along first thing in the morning and will have an idea, but think if you go into paypal blue bars along the top there is a tab request money and once you go in there the drop down menu allows you to get their email address and then you enter the amount then the reason - i would put it under services - not sure if this is the correct way to do it but thats what i would do
