Not sure, some parents are really organised and start buying early for some of them. unfortunately i'm not one of these organised parents.

No. It was just a lightbulb moment when I read the post. I've been marveling at the strings of puffed up bags we get in deliveries for a few months now but the penny hadn't dropped.

I think the cheapie bag sealers are about £5, so an investment would be needed.

If anyone has one of these sealers, could they give it a try and see if the theory holds out?

This is the probem with not having your overseas postage included up front. As there are only two rate bands for RM. Europe and worldwide just add the postage costs to your auciton P and P boxes and the invoice picks it up automatically based on their country.

All you can do here is to refund and send a revised invoice. However, this could get messy as they could say that they have paid the invoice as received and as it is all automated ebay will see that is correct and may entertain a non performing seller complaint. I would suggest emailing the buyer very apologetically, explaining what has happened and asking that they repay so you can send the goods on Monday. You could just send a second invoice for the extra postage, but that costs you a little more in fees and can be a problem if buyer puts in an item not received claim .

Then go and add the postal costs to all your other auctions where overseas sales are enabled.

Thank you very much to everyone who helped me with this problem!

That's good advice there Soolin, I have sent the buyer another invoice for the £8 and a nice note so hopefully they will pay the extra postage. I think maybe I have too much faith in ebay buyers, most of them have been lovely but a few have just been really quite dim and do things like this and ask me questions about measurements etc when all the info is there in the advert. All my previous international bidders have requested an invoice for international postage so I assumed this is what most sensible people would do if the postal rate to their country isn't listed.

You're right, I will add international postage rates onto all my auctions from now on. I seem to have a lot more international bidders than when I last sold on ebay (a couple of years ago).

In other news, I am currently watching a coach built pram that's near me that is collection only and is at a really really cheap price with no bids on it. Have just done a quote for courier delivery on it to london (to get an idea of prices) so if noone bids on it I may buy it and resell it, offering courier delivery service.

edit - just had a really sweet message from the buyer with the postage mix up, think it's all going to be ok and they're going to pay - hurrah!

I am really struggling to know where to start with ebay

I do have some barely worn brown 3inch heel ladies size 8 boots - cost me about £50

I also have some barely worn reebok trainers probably cost me about £20

I have a girls pampolina coat in red that new would have been about £100 (I was given it secondhand)

plus probably loads of other things!

but I have no idea how much to charge postage or anything else. Also I would be new to ebay and therefore have no track record - would I be better trying to sell on my OH's account as at least he has buyers feedback?
