Clearing the sale stock quicker wont make them any money given the reductions as its unlikely that they are making a profit on the bulk of the low price sale items and if they are it will be minimal. Giving free delivery on sale items would not be cost effective especially if no min order limit.

However, its personal choice to make so many orders and the delivery charge is clearly stated. From the prices i've paid for some of the items it more than cancels the delivery charge out plus no hassle of getting to town, parking, finding the item etc.

I dont think its so much about paying the postage costs, its the fact that people have asked for the orders to be combined and they have done it for some people and wont do it for others. I know thats whats annoying me. If they can do it for some people why not all?

i am not being a sexist, but i do find that talking to a male cs got better chance of getting postage refunded than a female cs. my experiences: 4 calls , 2 male 2 female, male both sucess, female both got a stroppy reply NO

I'm sure M&S are well aware of this site - and this thread. We're clearing the last items of their sale stock, which I'm sure suits them fine. The difficulty, esp on low value items, is that if we buy them immediately we incur p&p, if we build up a basket then things we want are likely to have gone out of stock before we check out.

I'm sure M&S's systems could identify where someone has put in more than one order in a day and amalgamate them - we just need to encourage them to organise this, which is why I'm very thankful to those who have shared the responses they have received from M&S about delivery charges - and if I make more orders today (as seems possible!) I'll be calling them to see if I can get my orders amalgamated.
