    Good afternoon.

Well, I am happy that DS is back to school and things feel more normal again. I had my Monday cuppa with my friend and it was lovely to have some adult company!

    Today I have/will:

    - [STRIKE]get up on time :D
    - get dressed and actually do my hair and makeup
    - take DS to school
    - go to Morrisons for juice and chocolate spread
    - do the washing and hung it up and put dry stuff away
    - afternoon washing up
    - clean the oven (for the first time since I moved in 3 years ago - it was grim)
    - put old diet coke down the loo instead of throwing it away
    - quick hoover
    - mop kitchen floor
    - take some bottles to recycling bank when I pick DS up from school
    - quick dust
    - measure DS's curtains and order new ones (can't bear to say why but it was not pleasant)[/STRIKE]
    - polish mirrors
    [STRIKE]- evening washing up
    - sort out DS's packed lunch for tomorrow
[/STRIKE]Monday is my big housework day but it's not been too bad so far.

Hope everyone is still full of New Year optimism! :D:D:D
  • to do (some of this is for today - some is for the week)

    pick up prescription
    make spag bol
do as much washing / drying as possible
    fill dishwasher / wash up
    take clothes upstairs
sort DDs school uniform for tomorrow
    tidy bathroom
humour my mother when she visits later
find envelopes for home made thank you cards
SEND home made thank you cards
    find DSs developmental check letter
get DD to clean out hamster
inventory cupboards / fridge freezer and do meal planner
try to find my marbles :)

I'm a working mummy as of today - but on the plus side I got to the office, did all the stuff I needed to do while I was there and since nobody was there I went home to work here instead.

    send all the required emails
look for secretary to explain where my post tray has gone[/STRIKE] She's on holiday till next week
    [STRIKE]update computer
email required documents about the place
    update brand document
    write 2000 words on paper[/STRIKE]

    Home stuff:
    [STRIKE]
    banking
    call SLC[/STRIKE] they're closed, it's a holiday
    [STRIKE]organise courier
    unpack cases
    put the clothes away
    put the cases away
put the baby's clean laundry away[/STRIKE]
    dishes
    put the dishes away

  • I'd love to join in with this challenge please. I am a SAHM to girl and boy aged 7 and 8. I dream of being organised......don't we all!

Am determined this year to stick with the routine thing as I know it makes things better in the long run. Am starting New Year with a huge declutter - freecycle, charity shops, recycling bins - whatever it takes - anything as long as it's out of my house!! Then am going to use everything up in cupboards, toiletries etc and clear freezer so I can restock everything properly.

    Today I have:

Freecycled lots of things - just one left for collection - feels great to get the space back!!
Charity bags ready to go - from kids rooms
Recycling bag of christmas cards for whoever goes near Morris*ons next
    2 loads of washing
Got curry out of freezer for tonights supper
    Menu plan for week

    Still need to:

Label ds's socks for games tommorow
    15 mins ironing
Put away mound of clean washing
Spend 15 mins in playroom trying to find floor......am on mission to get all toys together in boxes/baskets etc and to reunite all pieces to their proper home and chuck whatever is broken.
    Sweep kitchen floor
    Write 2 thank you letters

Thinnk the suggestion made by an earlier poster re: particular theme each week would be great - the more tips the better.

Ok - off to do some of those things now - my first post ever on here - i hope it's ok and not too rambling!

    I x

  • Ok,

Have done the following today =
    Phoned dentist and rescheduled appt
Phoned vet and booked dogs booster jab
Phoned tesco and ordered new card & key fobs - lost mine :o
    Washed up
    Dusted
Put load of washing on (now in dryer:rolleyes:)
Dried last nights load, washed and folded
    Decided whats for tea tonight
Organised Tesco food order to be delivered tomorrow
Had breakfast and dinner (this is a BIG acheivement with a 7 week old baby...normally don't eat anything till 3/4pm!)

Crikey that seems like loads written down.

OK as a few of you have said it would be a good idea to have a theme for the discussion once a week here goes.
I have posted some questions which you can answer and post any other info underneath or just let us know what you do.

Please copy & paste the questions and put your answers underneath. (I hope this works, I am new to forums so please bear with me if I am asking the impossible). I will answer in a separate post.

I am thinking that before I post next weeks theme I will pick out the best bits/top tips from the prior week and summarise them in a new comment.

    Week 1/52 - Theme - Food Shopping

    1. Do you do your food shop in-store or online & why?

    2. How often do you do the food shopping?

    3. What is your food shopping budget (if you have one) and what/who does that cater for?

    4. Do you find your budget is sufficient?

    5. Do you keep a price book? (if yes please describe it)

    6. Do you regulary use coupons/store 'points' cards?

    7. If you use coupons/cards how do you organise them?

    8. Name 3 items of the 'value' range you would recommend to anyone.

    9. Name 3 items you must have at brand level

    10. What one thing do you most struggle with/annoys you the most/you would like to do better when it comes to the food shop.

Please feel free to add any top tips...

...and let me know if you have any ideas for topics/ways to improve this!
2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(
  • Week 1/52 - Theme - Food Shopping

    1. Do you do your food shop in-store or online & why?
Do the big shop online and get the fresh stuff from the local shop.

    2. How often do you do the food shopping?
Big shop monthly after pay day and fresh stuff fortnightly-ish.

    3. What is your food shopping budget (if you have one) and what/who does that cater for?
£80 for big shop and £40 for the fresh stuff/top up shops. This covers all food, drinks, cleaning products and toiletries for hubby, me & baby. (NOT nappies, formula milk or pet food).

    4. Do you find your budget is sufficient?
It is about right, when I am watching the pennies we normally come in under budget. Would like to get it under budget consistently.

    5. Do you keep a price book? (if yes please describe it)
Have just started one, printed off some blank forms and put in plastic wallets in my folder. When I buy something I write it down marking if it was on offer. I want to keep this up so I can stock up on great deals and wisely turn down not so great ones!

    6. Do you regulary use coupons/store 'points' cards?
Yes, Have a Mr T card which is used along with any codes I can find, have a Mr S card and try to use any offer coupons when I am actually visiting the store.

    7. If you use coupons/cards how do you organise them?
I have purchased a leather travel document holder in the boots sale half price and use the zip up compartment for the vouchers and the other sections to store my cards including gift cards and shopping list.

    8. Name 3 items of the 'value' range you would recommend to anyone.
Always purchase value plum tomatoes, value lasagne sheets & value new potatoes in a tin (for quick and easy meal and not as bad as chips!).

    9. Name 3 items you must have at brand level
Heinz tomato soup, HP Sauce & Heinz Spaghetti.

    10. What one thing do you most struggle with/annoys you the most/you would like to do better when it comes to the food shop.
Need to get back in the habit of taking a list...and sticking too it! Also ensuring I am buying the offers because I will use them not just because they are a good offer!

Please feel free to add any top tips...
I like doing the shopping online as for the bulk of my shopping I can see the value of the basket as I am adding items which helps keep me within budget. I like to get my fresh items in store so I can choose the quality and check out the whoopsies!!;)

    Week 1/52 - Theme - Food Shopping

    1. Do you do your food shop in-store or online & why? Create list online using mysupermarket, then print and purchase in store. Reasons: In store I can look for whoopsed items and doing the list online means I can delete and click on things til I've spent exactly the right amount. Also means DH can go alone with the list and get the exact right stuff :rotfl:

    2. How often do you do the food shopping? Weekly

    3. What is your food shopping budget (if you have one) and what/who does that cater for? Aim for £20 per week, but wll allow £90-100 per month. This is for me, DH and DS. DS2 is currently a fetus, but does still seem to have definate dietary needs! DS1 has formula and we are doing BLW and a few purees for him. All are included in my budget.

    4. Do you find your budget is sufficient? It's tight, but do-able. When we reach our goals we will spend a little more on food. (and as the sons become strapping lads no doubt!)

    5. Do you keep a price book? (if yes please describe it) It's a spreadsheet, but I have a very good memory so don't take it out with me. Only exception was when I first became a member of costco, and took the price per 100g of all my staple items at asda printed out so I could see what was a bargain.

    6. Do you regulary use coupons/store 'points' cards? Nope

    7. If you use coupons/cards how do you organise them?

    8. Name 3 items of the 'value' range you would recommend to anyone. Pasta, flour, sugar. Not much you can do wrong with those!

    9. Name 3 items you must have at brand level only tea bags and cafetiere coffee. (does asda's own count as a brand? If not, then nothing.)

    10. What one thing do you most struggle with/annoys you the most/you would like to do better when it comes to the food shop. Wish DH was slightly more predictable in his food wants. He tends to watch food TV and need to have a particular meal, and I haven't planned for it :rotfl:

Please feel free to add any top tips...

    1. Do you do your food shop in-store or online & why?
I shop online as I find it so much easier to be focused on what I actually need rather than what I would like!!
    2. How often do you do the food shopping?
Once a week - usully deliver on Friday pm
    3. What is your food shopping budget (if you have one) and what/who does that cater for?
About £60 - does me, oh, ds and dd, 2 guinea pigs and dog
    4. Do you find your budget is sufficient?
It's fine but sometimes I think would be lovely to buy some 'goodies'
    5. Do you keep a price book? (if yes please describe it)
Not sure what this is - look forward to someone enlightening me
    6. Do you regulary use coupons/store 'points' cards?
    No
    7. If you use coupons/cards how do you organise them?

    8. Name 3 items of the 'value' range you would recommend to anyone.
rice, chickpeas and kidney beans - also Mr A's smart price single duvets for £6.98 (13.5 tog) was really chuffed with these - esp. at the moment!
    9. Name 3 items you must have at brand level
    Only really fussed about ketchup
    10. What one thing do you most struggle with/annoys you the most/you would like to do better when it comes to the food shop.
Would like to be more creative with what I buy - tend to be very boring although see below for my new regime............
Please feel free to add any top tips...

I am so sick of same old things - so have found a pretty box and been through all old food mags and cut out lots of things I like the look off and I'm trying to incorporate a couple of new things in each weekly plan. Found it quite relaxing to do!
