im sorry i havent read this whole thread i havent got time but DO NOT GET A IPHONE!!! i have worked in the mobile phone biz for 3 years and the iphone is a never ending stream of problems. orange had to open a whole new department on lanch only for iphone faults. (lol i might not be alowed to tell you that) the worst problem being coma mode. i think you should try you get a n96 (make sure u have unllimted internet tho) it is the best phone i have worked with so far and it has bbc iplayer so u can catch up on doctor who lol. also order ur phone from the website if u can 7 day long distance selling act applys if u dont like it, its tuff if you get it from a store.
any one thinking of getting a iphone google 'coma mode' i hope i have helped
I have a N96 and an iPhone, and the n96 can't come close to the iPhone(and preferred my n95 to it as well..) even though I am one of those currently experiencing 'coma mode'. Coma mode came about due to a recent software update, it’s not a serious be all, end all flaw in the phone and it , my n95 had similar problems with some updates- as does Windows and every other piece of software.
I have been a Nokia user my entire mobile life and found it hard to switch but I am glad a did, no other phone I have tried has come close to such a swift, intuitive and easy GUI for a phone IMO. Only downside is the ridiculous cost of accessories, and mobile company rip off's. Why must I pay another £15 a month to use my iPhone as a modem when my contract includes "unlimited" data and I can use my N96 for free in the same situation?0 -
You've all got me looking at the HTC phones now! Is the Tattoo or the Magic any good or does it have to be the Hero?
The Tattoo is great value for money, so is the T Mobile pulse. The UI on the HTC ones are slightly better though (a little extra features here and there, typical HTC stuff). Magic is also good.
Those 3 phones are all near enough identical, the only main difference being the Tattoo doesn't have GPS.0 -
I'm in a dilemma now .... keep my existing phone and get a ridiculously cheap tariff per month which I can upgrade in six months anyway! Or get the Tattoo which is still REALLY good value compared with the iPhone!0

Get that tattoo, or grab a rollling 30 day contract and see what comes out first quarter next year.
Motorola Milestone will be the best phone out imo next year.0 -
I have got a HTC hero and it definitely can stand shoulder to shoulder with the iPhone. I spent a fair few months deliberating which one to get. For those people unaware about android its the software which runs the phone and it is developed by Google. It's no point getting into debt over a phone. The HTC hero at this moment in time is the best phone out there!0

The iPhone is all hype. It's an utter steamer! I had one for a year expecting it to do all these weird and wonderful things but it's pretty bog standard, most of the apps you have to pay for as the phone comes with neff all, the camera is rubbish as is the battery life (even with most of the apps switched off), not to mention the touch screen is a pain in the backside and seems to do as it fancies. Great if you're an Apple-Head and have all Apple technology as it really is biased.
I ended up changing my phone to a Blackberry Storm2 which is much better and it suits my needs more.
I'd give one piece of advice.
Take a couple of hours to go into the shop when it's quiet and just play with the phones!Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0 -
Thanks to everyone who replied!
I decided AGAINST the iPhone in the end and got a cheap SIM only contract with existing provider. I am saving £30 a month plus the cost of the iPhone and in 9 months, if I am still hankering for a phone that will easily go online and get emails, I can upgrade then to an HTC!0 -
For me it is. I'm constantly using it whether it be checking my emails, using the ipod or making notes.

I had the 2G iPhone and then upgraded to the 3GS iPhone, both sim free and used on Orange on un-official contracts. I've never ever paid for a phone, but with the iPhone I did and I'd never go back to anyone else.
All my friends have iPhones and the ones that don't want one. I like everything about it, but the main thing is how simple it is and how amazing the UI is. The iPhone might not be the most advanced phone in the world in peoples opinions, yet I know have push email, syncing online to my mac at home, to my work, uni, home, social calendars, have all my music, videos, games etc in 1 device. It does what I need and 100% better than anything out there.
I've tried alot of new touchscreen 'multi-touch' phones and they just don't match up at all, if one did I would consider switching. In the end there are lots of Apple haters and lovers out there.
I reply to the battery issues, problems with the iPhone. In 3 years of owning 2 iPhones I've never had a single issues. In 8 years of owning other phones I always had issues. Apple hands down all the way for the time being, whilst everyone tries to catch up.0 -
I am also considering the iPhone but the more I read about the product the more I DONT want to purchase one.
The phone seems to be hyped up and I wonder what phone people had before they upgraded to the iPhone? Were your previous phones that bad that they make the iPhone look good?
I appreciate that the interface and app store is a massive positive for the iPhone but I feel the new phones coming onto the market this year will totally surpass the iPhone on many fronts.
Google in association with HTC have just launched the Nexus phone.

Looking between the specs for Nexus v iPhone - it seems the Nexus wins technically on nearly every ground. Smaller size but bigger screen, higher resolution screen, faster processor, 5MP camera with flash.
The only thing that needs to be decided is whether the Android operating system works as well as the iPhone system and whether 18,000 apps vs iPhones millions is going to make the vital difference?
I think ill hold out for another few weeks before I take the plunge!:: Lee ::0
