If you're wanting the functionality without the expense - consider the HTC Hero (T-Mobile G2 Touch)

It's available with 300 mins, unlimited text and unlimited internet on T-Mobile from buymobilephones.net for £20 per month. The phone is £19.99 upfront but you can get £20 back via Quidco.

Runs the Android OS - has a great web browser, push email, loads of apps available via the Android Market,.....

I switched to it from iPhone and it's great - does everything I can think of that my iPhone 3G did and when HTC release the update to Android 2.1 in the new year it'll be even better (turn by turn navigation etc as standard)

It is deffo not worth the money. It is a fad, and a 3 year old one at that.

Look into Android handsets from T-Mobile (the pulse for example) or HTC (Hero, Magic, G1) - these do all what the iPhones does, and more, and with a larger % of free apps (now thats MSE!). The iPhone is very locked down, with a very poor camera, the only thing it has going for it is its user interface - something Android rivals quite well.

My girlfriend recently got a T-Mobile Pulse running Android and it does exactly what the iPhone does in terms of music & applications, except it cost a hell of a lot less.

Marketing is the only reason the iPhone is so popular.

Edit: If you use Google Mail (Gmail) you will love it even more as it syncs your contacts over the cloud, as well as your emails, google Talk account & the HTC flavours have far better facebook integration (downloading profile pics of your contacts etc from facebook).

I'm not techy....never been one to be bothered about the latest must-have phone and certainly not ab Apple devotee...only got an ipod last year cos someone else chose it and bought it for me, I was happy with the Creatives that I'd had in the past.

I got an iphone about 6 months ago because I was due an upgrade and the contract was no dearer than I was paying with my previous crappy Samsung. It was the added free internet browsing that clinched it for me, I wasn't that bothered by the iphone itself. However, I now love, love, love my iphone. I mean really love it :) I love everything about it. I can even forgive it it's rubbish camera.

Did I mention that I love it? :D

I love the iphone, I have the 3GS however...

The camara is rubbish, my old Nokia was better.
Internet speed is only as good as the network, so in my office in SW1 the speed is great via the network, even better via the BT Openzone hotspot access, but at home I only get Orange 2g so is very slow, but then I use my wifi connection anyway.

The apps are great, I have a number that I use all the time now, and wonder how I got by before... normally carried a large map book and always called National Rail Enqs!!

But I wanted an ipod and also was looking for a new phone so it solved two problems and I got a good deal from Orange on the phone and line rental
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

I'll second this. I bought my husband a pulse for christmas. It cost £147 with £10 credit loaded up from Tmobile and is the only Android phone available on PAYG. It looks like an iPhone and has a lot of similar functions. I've never had an iPhone and could never justify the shocking cost to be honest

    Huh? :)

Given the speed mobile technology moves, 3 years is a pretty long 'fad'!
  • Blackberry all the way. Can go up to 32gb (when they bring the card out!!!). Not sure if you can change the battery on the iphone.
  • I went to a female party and a friend had one. I had a play with it and loved it, I couldn`t wait to get to the o2 shop the next day to get one. I`m not normally one for gadgets but I just love my iphone. It`s a good all rounder and I don`t know how I managed without it. I don`t have a problem with battery life and I use my blue tooth as it connects really well with my car kit. I also use it on the bus to read emails, surf the net and listen to music, plus I use it in my breaks at work. I am around this time of the day on low battery. I do charge it overnight using the Pure ipod clock dab clock radio.

When it`s not in my hands my 9 year old uses many of the apps. Once my contract runs out in the summer I will upgrade to the 16 or 32gb as I have to limit the amount of apps I have as only got 2gb of the 8 left.

Your reply made me smile! Thanks!

What do the apps actually do though?

One of my best friends just uses it to squeeze bubble wrap!!! I have tons of REAL bubble wrap if I need a stress reliever!

I know you can download and read books on it but again, I think I'm old-fashioned and would prefer a real book!

Bubble wrap was my first app.
