Is the iPhone really worth it or does the novelty wear off?

I'm umming and ahhing about getting an iPhone but it is really expensive compared with just sticking with what I've got already!
How good is it really?
The camera isn't that great is it? I have a small and very good digital camera that I carry a lot anyway.
My existing phone is an MP3 player, albeit not as "user friendly" as the iPhone.
I don't play games.
I like the idea of the easy internet access plus always being able to access my emails but I'm not usually far from a computer anyway.
I have a sat nav so don't need that function.
Am I missing something? What else does it do?
Sorry if this offends existing iPhone devotees - that's the reason I can't ask my friends who have one....!

  • Just the 10 million apps that come with it!

If you have all that was listed then not much point in getting it apart from really wanting it. I am the same as you but still really want it!!!! Jesus I want it lol

Your reply made me smile! Thanks!

What do the apps actually do though?

One of my best friends just uses it to squeeze bubble wrap!!! I have tons of REAL bubble wrap if I need a stress reliever!

I know you can download and read books on it but again, I think I'm old-fashioned and would prefer a real book!
  • I got mine last March and hate it!!!

I thought it would be great and was sooo excited when I got it, a couple of months later I hated it and regretted getting it.
The internet is really slow, apps need updated alot (well he ones I have).
It freezes alot and has lots of faults. Its even been on the programme that anne Robinson hosts. Think it could be watchdog? If not its something similar. Me and my OH both have it and hate it.

Just my input, some people love theres but I certainly dont. I cant wait until my contract is up next September.

    xx

    That really helps....
It will cost me an extra £30 a month plus another £100 or so for the handset! Based on your experiences, it probably isn't worth it is it?
  • The best way to decide if a phone suits you is to get to a retail store and demo it. Remember, you can demo iPhone at Orange or O2 now, so pick the network you know has the best signal in your area. Then, take a look at the following:
    • Typing on the keyboard. Does it come naturally to you?
    • Taking photos. Are you happy with the results?
    • The App Store. Can you see things you'd use?

You can take a closer look at the App Store by downloading iTunes on your computer and browsing through it there. Re. the camera quality, Megapixels refer only to the size you can blow a picture up to, if you mostly look at pictures on your phone or print in 'standard' photo size, the 2MP on the 3G is plenty. If you want A4 shots, consider the 3GS.
    Hope that helps,

    Mark

Full Disclosure If this is a mobile phone related post, I'd like to disclose that I currently work for Three retail but any posts I make are my own, and not endorsed by the company in any way. I use this forum in a private capacity.
  • Just remember tho if you get a iphone you will get that smug demeanour app all for free!

(quickly runs and hides waiting for the apple fanboys to attack ;-) )
  • I was joking of course on previous post
I have tried my bro's one extensively and it is a very good bit of kit very slick with
the best front end of any mobile but as always with Apple kit but bit too rich
    for me £800+ over 18mths

My other half has one and i play with it sometimes but i don't understand all the fuss, you can't beat a Nokia i say .My other half has the old one and is desperate to get a new one but he's not getting it unless it is reduced dramatically in price which it won't be.
Its just not that good ! ( in my opinion ) .

I absolutely love Apple as a brand we have a desktop and two laptops in our house they are brilliant no question ,apple all the way with computers.
But the iphone is too fiddly i wanted it to be great but for a toy its ok but a nokia is better as a phone!
