    Hypno,

You've mentioned about not having holidays.

When our two were young, we were so broke we stayed at home, and went to all the tourist sites the local's never get around to visiting, especially the one's with special offers :)

English Heritage & National Trust I think do special family annual prices for single parent families (not sure if they're still on Tesco).

Tesco do I think still have a deal with the YHA. I think YHA do special price family membership too, the UK hostels do seem expensive, but the memberships work in Europe too (I think some countries have max ages, but most allow adults of any age now).

I know I've mentioned houseswapping before, if you're not keen on that, what about housesitting. We had a super few weeks near St Emilion, and with it being through the houseswap site, they had no problems with our teenage sons being there too. They normally swapped their house for holidays, and had teenagers too (admittedly girls, so boys were surprised by the bedroom decor :) ), but they were having a 'normal' break and prefered their house to be occupied. All we had to do was leave it clean and tidy, we did leave thank you presents for the family.

The best holiday we had in the last couple of years was when we as a couple put a tent in the back of the car and went touring around Scotland, camping is cheap, at the end we met up with our sons in Northumberland for a week and did part of the Hadrian's Wall Walk (only part due to weather). If you've not got camping kit there's normally a friend who has.

Holiday's are important for everyone, I'm probably the wrong one to say that as I always put them off, but everyone needs a break.

Also it would be good for you and DS & DD to get away together, as a first holiday in the new situation. They're teenagers, so family holidays can fade out so quickly.

Don't want to be adding to your list of things to do, but everyone needs something to look forward to.

You could delegate this to DS & DD to try and find the best deals they can find, especially as finding things for teenagers to enjoy can be difficult :)
  • Hi H

That's rubbish news. I was keeping my fingers crossed for you.

You are totally right though, it does makes more financial sense and will be more cost effective in the long term. Albeit quality of life will have to wait that little bit longer. Keep strong.:T

I know you said you needed time for yourself and for the mini Hypno's but I think the idea of taking students on again (in a few months time) could be the best thing - you might bew able to get a good deal on a set of bedroom furniture from Furniture World or the like

Sorry to hear it didn't go your way but well done on getting your head around the options.
I'm sure you'll make it all work out in the end.
  • My first entirely unconstructive response to the valuation was !!!! !!!! !!!!.

I am so angry on your behalf that this happening it is so unfair - and yes I know that doesn't help but I am the queen of being pointless angry and stating the obvious at the moment.

I can't help but be impressed by the plan tho. I am so immature in comparision! but I guess it is true when you say you are in a situation you didnt ask for and bottom line you just have to get on with it. Pah.it still sucks.Oops back to !!!! again!

It's just so pants.....I don't WANT students again, I don't WANT to be struggling and having to think about camping or housesitting being our options for holidays.

I was supposed to be debt free in just a few short months.....I was supposed to be thinking about a fab holiday for us, for a change, I was supposed to be able to start enjoying life rather than struggling through from day to day.

But someone, who I thought wanted all the same things, had different ideas.

The title of this diary, I thought, reflected the element of "selfishness" that I was hoping to introduce (in a positive way). How wrong I was :(

I really feel for you Hypno..it's soul destroying.I'm so upset for you as I know how hard you've worked to get so close to your goal and to have it whipped away from you by the one person that should be there for you through thick and thin is heart breaking.
You are one strong woman and I don't know of anyone else that can be so dignified in the situation you've found yourself in.

It's perfectly normal, I'd be screaming too!!!!!!!

It's not selfishness, what you're wanting now, it's a personal identity and refinding independence, after so long working so much for the team.

Being selfish also means looking after yourself so that you can look after DS & DD, so it isn't selfish at all :)
