Well, I'll keep plugging away! I'm chirpy because I made two sales today - one arty-photo book (bought for 2, sold for 20), and a book on running your own market stall (bought for 1.50 and sold for 14).

I swore to myself I would never, ever get in a situation where I had books that were virtually worthless. I don't have the space, for one thing, nor the inclination to do the car-boot thing.

So my minimum profit, after fees and postage, has to be a fiver, or I don't bother (I think I must be relatively blessed with the charity shops round here). I think it can be the way to make this thing a viable but non-exasperating income stream - as I say, my stock is only ever 70-ish books, so turning over 5 per week - some for a fiver's profit, some for 40 - suits me down to the ground.

Buying to resell, I hope you've registered as a business ;)
  • Yes, I am registered - I do a few different things, self-employed. Portfolio career and all that. I appreciate the concern - tax dodgers of any level are to be tutted at until they relent and cave in.

As for the CDs and DVDs - don't I know it. Still can't help myself from undercutting back (I then, after a few weeks of this nonsense, reset my price to the 2nd lowest, they then go back up to match it, and the whole ridiculous charade begins again).

I think that is a sensible way of trading, I do something similar myself. I still have a stock of around 750 books (I'm too lazy to dump them all) but I am still listing new books and getting rid of the old ones slowly. I also have a presence in a real Bricks and mortar outlet (not doing well yet unfortunately) plus I buy and sell collectables mainly on ebay but also privately and i also keep stock for car booting.

It's always best to spread the risk, that goes within Amazon selling and outside of it. Unfortunately I'm stuck with just Amazon at the minute, need to broaden my horizons, though sales are OK if not brilliant so I won't have to sell my parents to lonely orcs. Yet.

Beginning in mid-August, we will start automatically disbursing funds to Individual sellers more frequently: once every 7 days instead of every 14 days. We will post an announcement once the new disbursement policy for Individual sellers has gone into effect.
Each automatic weekly disbursement will include the net proceeds for orders you confirmed as dispatched between 14 and 21 days prior to the disbursement date.

Because we will be disbursing funds weekly, we will be removing the "Request Disbursement" button from the Finance page in your seller account.
To learn more about the coming changes, please see our FAQs.

Yep it looks like the non pro sellers are now going to be paid every 7 days but it will be for items sent 14 to 21 days after you confirm shipment not the 14 days as now.

I dropped to selling around 8 items a month now on Amazon and maybe getting one feedback a month if I am lucky. Unfortunately I've now got a neutral 3 * with 'just as described' which has pushed my monthly feedback to 80% and my yearly one to 94% so it looks like bye bye to any more selling on Amazon for me.

Hi Soolin, I've been there in the past I still got orders, whilst I do think some customers buy from the seller with the best feedback others just buy the cheapest or with a good description.
I don't think you will have any problems from amazon themselves with that feedback I think they mainly concentrate on new sellers.
Customers only see the the yearly figure unless they look in depth at the feedback anyway.
I am only selling a similar amount of items myself, the orders have really dropped off.

If you hate tax dodgers then the first thing to do is stop buying from play.com, TESCO, thehut.com, 7dayshop.com, the list of well known tax dodgers is endless

Having now been a pro merchant for 3 months I have earned the buy box on all my listings as far as I can see. Hopefully that will lead to a few more sales. Has anyone with the buy box seen a marked increase in sales?
