Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 30th December! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all! am up early to go on the milkround with DH as he's very busy today. Will pop back later to post properly.
Diva - hope your hip is ok today and that you're just having a lie-in!
PP - glad you enjoyed your break, hope all goes well at the hospital x
Have a great day all, back later x

Good morning Taplady & all who follow.
Cold & raining here this morning but I've had my first coffee so am feeling more human now :rotfl: Only DD & I up so we're having a nice chat, she's perched on the worktop drinking her cup of tea nattering to me about work, life, friends etc. It's great & I enjoy it
Plans for today are to go food shopping first thing. I have a normal list as I didn't go silly for Christmas and have used up all the leftovers already :T I also need to get the ironing done which I have been putting off for 3 days now:eek: The windows need a clean so I'll get that done too.
Hopefully more knitting later this afternoon. I did the back to a tiny baby cardigan last night - it's been years since I knitted baby stuff so it made a nice change.
Lunch is leftover pasta & cheese and tea tonight is mixed veg & lentil soup with naan breads followed by apple crumble & custard.
Diva Hope the hip is ok this morning xx
Hugs to anyone else who needs one and have a good day.0 -
Morning taplady, SG and all who follow.
Up early this morning - have to get used to it again as back to work tomorrow worst luck:rolleyes: this has been a nice long break this time.
Tidying on agenda for today as I like the house to be spotless for New Year and I am working tomorrow so need to get sorted today. Then going to clear through the fridge and make sure nothing is due to go out of date that can be frozen and make a soup with rest of veg.
We are cooking a turkey crown for NY day - we have not had much turkey at all this year as we went to DD for christmas so really looking forward to it! Probably need to pick up some fresh veg to accompany it.
Have a good day all

Good Morning All! Slightly worried by the date - have I slept longer than I thought??
Trying to get organised for our party tomorrow. One of our guests doesn't eat wheat products so need to think this through a bit. I guess this means gluten free - never quite know about different breads?? Also will mayonnaisee be thickened with something she should avoid? It may be OS but I'm always wary about making HM mayo!!
Managed to get the dining room looking respectable (enough!) yesterday. Rest of the "public" areas of the house not too bad, so I'm concentrating on the food today. DH up early to see Dr - he has terrible heartburn most nights which is making him literally sick.
Hope everyone is OK - enjoy today.Resolution:

Morning All
Dinner (braising steak onions and carrots) is in the SC and we have left over soup for lunch. DS1 was being sick all day yesterday but he must be feeling better as he is down wanting a bacon sarnie  I've made him eat a piece of toast to test the stomach first! So he is currently playing with DD's building blocks! (He's 17...she's 3)
Made a start on my flylady list for the day and I'm trying to 'firefight' and keep in shape the jobs i've done earlier in the week.
I have a dilema! I was intending to do a Turkey dinner for New Years Day but...DS's are planning on being out drinking, i will indulge in some alcohol (although i'm not intending to consume too much!) so I was debating doing in New Years Eve instead - what do you think? A good feed would help line everyones stomachs too lol. Will speak to DH later although as a non-drinker he will be led by his love of turkey and the sooner the better will be his choice!
Need to get DD in the bath and wash her hair today - she's been full of cold and our bathroom isn't the warmest place so I've been just giving her a quick wash. With this cold she has had a headache and she didn't want her plaits in yesterday so her hair looks a lot like this ...not sure I could get a brush through it if I wanted to so I'll just get it washed and smother it in conditioner! But that battle is definitely for later!
My throat is still very dry/sore and my sinusus are still blocked so I have faceache:D but I feel so much better than a few days ago but DH was showing signs of starting with it yesterday:rolleyes:
Need more coffee and then I'm tackling/decluttering the two paperwork drawers in the kitchen....
Have a good day

Morning all
Not too cold here today, we've had rain but no snow.
I've cleared all my washing, I expect DS will be round with his soon as he starts back at work soon.
I may take hubby for a drive later, he hates being stuck in the house, but can't walk far at the moment as his knee is still very painful.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning peeps:hello:
jc - I always did New Year dinner the day before. Gives everyone a good lining in the stomach.
Haven't caught up with last bits of yesterday's Daily but am glad to hear that you had a good break, PP, and hope all goes well for you.
DH is off to train station with DSS as he goes back to England today after his few days with us. I think it helped him to see where we are and how to do the journey. He is 15 with borderline Aspergers (they said it wasn't worth 'labelling' although i disagree as I think it would help school with teachers etc - anyway  ). He has just had aworse than expected (by us!) set of mock results so that has given him food for thought.
Plans today include a trip to Bo0ts to get my eve primrose oil as I've run out and notice a difference when I don't take them. Will also get some mega vit C to replace the ones we've been using from DD's cupboard.
Also need to go round to the storage depot and arrange another couple of weeks for our stuff. I got 20% student discount when I booked it a couple of weeks ago and this time they are saying it's only if you pay up front for a block booking of 'time', so it'as full price from now on. Will see if I can persuade them to change their mind. the email said it was in their terms and conditions. Worth a try as it's better in my purse right now than theirs.<sigh>
Think I might make a big pot of soup as well. Spicy minestrone maybe. The weather is to turn cold again (not that the ice has lifted from the pavements here!) so that would be nice and warming to have.
Some ironing needs to be tackled and a general clean around.
Hope to see DS for a coffee before he heads off with friends for New Year.
Ok, over and out from me.
Hope everyone has a good day.
(((hugs))) to those who are in need of one today

Morning Everyone
We had a wedding on yesterday, which went beautifully, the bride was very tall and slim, but had selected a dress which totally suited her and she looked gorgeous. It was a civil service in a hotel followed by a meal and evening do, and all went swimmingly. It was our godson's wedding, and over the years we have been to various "do's" and celebrations, so it ends up with a meeting of all his parents friends from over the years as we now all know each other , and ended up sitting next to a lady I had worked with 28 years ago, she hadn't reckonised me or me her, but the seating plan gave my name away. :rotfl: She was a stand in guest, as the parents of the best man as one couple had had to drop out with 'flu, but we all had a good time. The only thing for me, is I prefer the church wedding service to the civil one, call me old fashioned, but it just doesn't do it for me.
Later today DS & his GF go back down south:sad: Once they have gone, then we will start a big clear up.
Everyone else still asleep atm, so I am pinching "me" time on here.
Just had a scan read of yesterday, and hope those struggling to move are a little better today. Pen-Pin hope your hospital trip goes OK, and Bitsy you manage to get some sleep soon. ((((hugs))))
Take care - DG

Morning everyone,
Im just rebooting the washing machine today, as off to visit hubby in a bit. Just wanted to say:-
Diva, you made me cry.
Thank you for the flowers. They are lovely.
I want everyone to know what a wonderful person you are. We have never met, (except on here), and have exchanged only a few PM's and IM's but Diva has the heart of an angel.
I hope you hip gets back to 100% soon so you and Mr Diva can go dancing.
Now, Ive dried my eyes and am off to see hubby.
Hugs to all
LG
Edit: Cant go visit hubby today as have got heavy head cold and staff nurse says not to risk it. So more housework for me today. Will put chilli in slow cooker for tea tonight.working hard at this thing called life0 -
I just had to pop back on to say a huge thank you to the MSE'er who sent me a shortbread press, I'm so excited & can't wait to make a new batch with a thistle pressed in to it.
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
Very disappointed at the lack of snow here. It is just wet.
OSiness today includes laundry and maybe a bit of ironing -just a bit mind I don't want to do myself an injury
Lunch will be lucky dip leftovers. I have defrosted one portion of cauliflower cheese, one of chicken spaghetti, one of macaroni cheese, one of pea soup and one of vegetable rice. I'm the only one who likes cauliflower so I guess that's me sorted.
Supper -not sure yet but possibly leftover ham and baked potatoes.
This pudding that I made yesterday was very successful. I added a layer of bread to the top so the it would have a crunchy top.0
