When I worked at a shop I sometimes had to stand by the door and check bags when the alarm went off. I was always very polite about it and assumed that it was a problem with someone leaving the tag rather than implying that someone was stealing.
Once a woman went absolutely mental at me and kicked up such a fuss that the manager had to come and deal with her & she left me in tears.
I realise it's annoying and I find it really embarrassing but mistakes can happen and it's certainly not fair to blame someone who didn't even make the mistake in the first place.Wedding 5th September 20150 -

Well there's no excuse for rude behaviour like that on the part of customers either. You're just doing your job.
Last time the bag check issue came up for me, someone politely said "Can I check your bag please sir" on the way out of the store, and I politely replied "No thanks they're ok as they are" and carried on walking. They probably thought I was a bit strange because most people do stop, sure, but nobody was rude to anyone. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
hah i just find this all terribly amusing. Where I work, we have alarm tags for games and software, and we have the means to deactivate them, but we have no alarms.0

What i AM suggesting is that it is a bit suspicious refusing a member of staff to check your bags. If you had nothing to hide,....!
This "if you have nothing to hide" thing gets my goat.
/Paranoid switch on.....
If you have nothing to hide then you wont mind the security guards or police turning up at your home unannounced at any time of the day or night, perhaps once a month to go through your entire belongings then. Oh and if you have lost a receipt for anything in your home then would you mind being accused of stealing it?
Because they would if they could.
Paranoid swith off.../ :cool:0 -
Boots self service tills can't deactivate the sticky tags...I therefore either queue for hours to be served by a human or get to have another chat with the nice security guard at the exit...it's obvious when it's me - I'm the one who has stopped dead by the shrieking alarm, swinging my bag to and fro and waving to let them know it's me and not some hyperventilating pensioner who tried to leave at the same time.
It's an irritation - but it's not his fault.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Be careful when picking anything up from tesco direct in store, the bags have security tags inside and will set the alarms off when going out.0

Last time I was around when an alarm went off (some snazzy clothes shop in London, I'd done a 20 second walk around, decided it was all rubbish and left) the cheeky bint behind me tapped me on the shoulder as if I'd set it off and should stop! It was actually the woman in front of me that had set it off, I hadn't even been close enough went it started. I caught the security guy's eye (who knew it wasn't me) and he nodded for me to go on my way...My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
This has happened to me twice in my whole life and it took about a minute of my time to sort out. If it happened repeatedly at the same shop and took ages to sort every time I just wouldn't shop there anymore...SimpleThanks to all posters0
