I'm a member of Esporta in Brighton, and read an article today in the Metro regarding Esporta being in financial trouble, and on the verge of collapse.

Does anyone know anything more about this? As I don't wanna pay them any more membership money if they are going under.

I read about it too but i still think youl have to pay as they will be bought out by another Gym company- I was the same though when i had my MG on finance and they closed- had to still pay though!

If it closes yes i would, they arent providing you with what you have agreed to.
But only if they close the doors-and not just at night!

If Esporta does close it will be taken over by Virgin Active or Greens. They will shut the gym for 2 weeks to rebrand it, and then open up again and assume that all the old members are going to stay.
  • Yes my experience at Esporta Finchley Road was the same. I find that they are not user friendly and not human in their understanding. They were not dishonest but they do not understand human necessity and the problems some of us face. But one consolation for all of us..they are going down which is atleast justice given by the mills of God.
  • Now I'm not working for them, I can tell you all there is a guy near me who for £5 can review your contract and sometimes get you out of it for free. Also can let you know if you are entitled to everything you paid back.

Signed up foolishly on Sat. Told staff was move to New Zealand soon so could not sign a 12 month contract. They handed me a 6 month contract and told me i could council after 3. Used the place Sat. Not too impressed. Went for induction Mon, Wast of time. Wrote a letter explaining i wanted to end membership and handed in Tues. Got a reply back from them Wed saying tough luck you signed and have to pay for 6 months. Spoke to manager at Harlow site and head office. Both refuse to council contract. Even though it does not start until 01/02/2008. Who wants £5 to review this contract?. Going to citizens advice on Wednesday and posted complaint on watch dog web site. any help please?.. Thanx Steve

If the contract is not to start until 1st Feb then just tell them no and if you have the docs to prove that you could cancell it because you are moving away then fight them.

I wish you luck on the whole thing.
