Morning........off to get the sticky
Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tusday 29th December! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Can't believe no-one has started this at this time! Where are you Diva :rotfl:can't remember last time I started the thread.
Today - am off to Chelmsford first thing, DS has a DVD that needs exchanging and I want to have a quick look in Lush and Paperchase - see if they have anything in the sales. Will also be treating myself to a Starbucks.
Once home will be locking myself in my office - loads to get done including 2 lots of VAT:eek: also need to look at changing my invoices soon with the new (old!) VAT rates:rolleyes:
Had a good afternoon yesterday, played loads of board games with Dsis, DD & Dneice. It was fun, they all stayed for buffet tea so the leftovers are nearly gone - nice for a while but everyone sick of them now.
So not too much OS today I'm afraid - will catch up tomorrow.
Now off to check the calendar - make sure I havn't missed anyone's birthdays - have a great day.x

I think you hit the wrong button! continuing
I shouldn't be here. Picked dd up last night and she was let's say 'incoherent'. Given how the police are rather keen this time of year I thought it best for me to drive her to work. I wasn't sure she would be up either, so being kind. Hmmmm
Might get a snooze later after Bro and his family have gone. It's like having a plague of locusts here! Doing HM pizza for lunch.
Then a few quiet days with dh and our two. I have sewing work to complete this week though, but fridge and freezer are full of easy to prepare food. Will catch up with the washing, but that will be about it."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Good Morning Essex-girl - and all to follow.Still looks very dark here! Woke up just after 4am and couldn't get back to sleep, so washing done, dishwasher cleaning cycle finished, plus some emails and the daily suduko puzzle! Now I am tired!
Yesterday I managed some decluttering - need to do loads more. Where does it all come from?
We tried to buy DH a Which recommended coffee-maker yesterday- all sold out! Today we will be looking for a new freezer. The old one ices up incredibly quickly nowadays and being a large chest model is increasingly difficult to defrost so it'll be an upright model this time. However, the old one owes us nothing - we bought it when we moved in, more than 26 years ago and it has never given us a single problem.
Hope you all have a good day. ((HUGS)) wherever needed.Resolution:

Morning everyone.
Rough night due to DS so am soooooooo tired todayBoth the kids and me appear to be starting with colds again  We were all poorly at start of December and looks like the end of it is going the same way <sigh>
Need to break out a duster today. Its shocking what the decorations were hidingBaked bean and potato hash for tea so fairly simple, back to my meal planning with a vengence. We have a fully stocked freezer (and stuff in my mums aswell
) so definately need to stop going to the supermarket unless it's for fruit and carrots and milk
H cleared mount iron last night bless him so with the exception of a small load of jumpers washing is pretty much up to date. How long will that last I wonder :rotfl:
Not sure what other plans I have for today. Half of me would like a nose at the shops to see the sales but the other half of me would rather stick pins in my eyes instead.......you hear of people picking up some real bargains but when ever I go sale shopping all I find is tat they couldn't sell 5 years ago
Have a good day OS or not. Hugs to those that need them.
Essex - I need to complete my first tax return before end of January I think - mind you I doubt I've earned enough to even pay tax but then there is always my class 4 to pay oh joy
Glad - good luck with selling your house. As with all decluttering just make baby steps
purpleivy - glad you took DD to work. Ouch - wouldn't like to be at work with a hangover :eek:I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning
Unexpected day off today....was going to be the only day I worked this week but DS has been up in night full of cold and chesty cough....maybe thats why he looked so awful last night, not just tiredness. He has been still and quiet on sofa with a blanket for 2 hours now so definately ill.
I will hopefully tackle the ironing pile todayand will prob make a quiche as we have ham and cream to use up today.
Might be able to get some menu planning done today for Jan.
I am not doing sale shopping either as I hate crowds and never find anything anyway:rolleyes:
MSD hope you are ok
Bitsy we have OHs tax returns to do soon too......its a joy:o:rolleyes:, Can you let me know how you make baked bean and potato hash please:D0 -
Morning,
I hope everyone has enjoyed their Christmas holidays. We've had some really good rainfall so everything is green again and tanks are full. Except the good grass in our yard hasn't survived but weeds have sprung up instead. I'm picking up DGS tomorrow and he's staying for a week. I have changed the pick up location as a friend rang today to organise a trip to Australian Zoo. You've all probably heard of Steve Irwin.Well crikey it's his zoo.
We're meeting up with him in the car park and then we'll spend the day in there. It's only an extra 1/2 hour drive for XDIL. She's not staying, thank God.I took Benny back to the vet this afternoon and his ears are good now. Didn't charge me so that was a surprise. I also got a free trip on the ferry. When I was about to get off I reminded the decky that he'd forgotten to collect my money & I got a wink and he told me it was my lucky day.
DD is still here and she leaves on Saturday. DS2 arrives on Friday for his days off as well. Hope you have a lovely day. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
NPM - Hope Noah is better soon xxx
Receipe is:
600g potatoes cut into chunks
400g leeks, sliced
2 cloves garlic
200g baked beans (one tin)
100g cheese (original receipe said Gruyere but since when do I ever buy stuff like that......its normal cheddar for me LOL!)
1 tsp dried sage
2 tsp veg oil
Salt and pepper
Cook spuds for 10 mins and add leeks, cook for further 5 mins.
Drain and mash coarsley adding the garlic.
Still in baked beans, cheese and sage.
Heat oil in pan and press potato mixture evenly over base.
Cook for 7-8 mins or until crispy and golden.
Turn over and cook on other side (or do what I do and stick frying pan under the grill).
Now you are "supposed" to be able to cut this into wedges bit like a pie........either I am doing something wrong and I can't coarsley mash properly but it normally ends up being a bit more like cooked mash potato with bits in itHowever it still tastes lovely (and I don't even like baked beans!!!!).
