Updating daily to keep track this month! Have spent 90p on some UHT milk this morning at the village shop, as the fresh milk I bought yesterday won't last long.

....run out of tubs to freeze things....
I wash out things like margerine tubs & if it's something like soup, put an old bread bag inside the tub, fill it & then freeze. Once it's solid, you can take the bag out of the tub & you've got it to use for something else, while the block of frozen soup/ chopped onion/ cooked mince/ diced veg etc etc etc, will all stack up nicely together in the freezer.

I made a concoction with turkey mince yesterday; when I bought it, the intention was to make a lasagne with layers of spinach but when it came to it, I couldn't make up my mind how to make the white sauce. The meal was OK but not brilliant & now I'm wondering if I should have fried the mince first, as I do with beef mince. Any ideas please?

Crikey its cold! We dont have the snow the rest of you are getting but its dangerously icy.I picked up 2 packs of the 240 typhoo t bags and a tub of i cant believe for the freezer from the co op.Really good offers as we drink gallons of tea.The freezer is emptying after Xmas but the cupboards are bursting as I finally caved in and got an approved food order.I'm trying to lose weight, again, so I'm glad of all the cup a soups I got, quick and only 98 cals a cup.I still make HM soup but if I get the munchies that stops the urge to nibble.I've shopped for the weekend so should be NSDs till Tues.Have a good weekend folks.

I would have fried the mince first, out of habit, not sure it would have been the right thing to do. Some one who is more experienced will probable be along to help us both in a minute.

Last night I decided to do a chicken fried rice, defrosted 2 pieces of chicken, having chopped 1 realised I had enough chicken. After eating I mentioned to OH that I had only used 1 piece and he said their was loads of meat. So 1 piece of chicken to cook into something and return to the freezer & add to a future meal plan.

I had to pop into town today (walked) as I had no bread, eggs or lunch for the children (they're still off school here). It's really bad out there people so please be very careful. I slipped over on my bum :o, luckily nothing hurt except my pride and a bit of a bruised hand and a sore bottom :rotfl:. It gave DS a laugh if anything else  .

Spent £3.66 so not too bad. I do have to do a weekly shop tonight and DH is coming so I'll have to keep a close eye on him to make sure no extras go in the trolley . I've made a list so should be able to stick to it. My only worry is whether I should buy any extras as the list I have is just enough to see us through the week, it doesn't plan for any more snow etc.

I'll pop on later and update with tonight's food shop spend, take care everyone xx

    Hi all,
Sitting hugging my hot water bottle here, despite the heating being on full blast brrrrr. Glad you didn't hurt yourself in the fall jtb2412, Been on my backside myself a few times in past weeks, luckily only pride been hurt:D Making hm macaroni cheese for tea tonight. Been freezing all leftover portions of food (a new concept for me) and think the idea of putting the bag in the tub so it can be reused is pure GENIUS!!! I'm already reusing butter tubs and bread bags, so will now combine the two. Thanks for the tip BigMummaF - Simple pleasures :rotfl:
