  • I need to join in. Really have to keep the costs down. I'm aiming for £200 - with a view to reducing each month. Excluding cat food as my pensioner cat can't cope with cheaper food so tend to spend a bit on him (he's sixteen)

  • HI Carrieon.
Just me and husband!!! + 3 dogs. (budget does not include dogs) we are newly weds and good luck to DONK insaving for your wedding!!!! You will have a fabulous day!!!

Carrieon......I have come into this challenge as me and husband are terrible at shopping..............We could spend £80 for of us for a week and throw copious amounts of stuff out at the end of the week. So for 2010 I or should I say we!!!! resolve to spend no more than £160 (same as you) and throw nothing away!!!!

This week I planned 7 evening meals and we have bits and bobs in for lunches etc. I am working nights this week and will take packed lunch and husband will take bits and bobs to work.

Went to Sainsburys and bought quite a few basic items and found it to be reasonable. only spent £36 and a few pence.

I resolve to become a better cook......trying a sausage and bean pie tomorrow night for tea but have lovely cookbooks that never see the light of day so am going to trudge through them tomorrow for ideas for next week. Also I have stopped smoking and am feeling very munchy....very!!!!

So if we can stick to this for 3 months............so I have said to husband...this could become the norm for us!!!!

    So ..............c'mon......lets go for it!!!!

blue eyes, bellebo, and carrieon, and any other newcomers wondering the same thing...

the grocery challenge can start and end whenever is the best date for you. Some people run 1st - 31st, some run to a 4 or 5 week period, and others run according to their payday (which for some people is 15th of the month).

Welcome to all the newcomers, Helen will be along to add you to the front page list soon. Pink-Winged has posted some useful links on her first 2 posts at the beginning of the thread and check out the recipes on the front page too.

skaps, sorry I cant help with the coleslaw question I'm afraid, I have a small pot in the fridge which is probably going to end up in the waste bin tomorrow :o
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Just tweak my Mr A shop for delivery tomorrow which will last a week, it just over 30 pounds (usually my deliveries are 80+). I was determined not to spend that much so I've meal planned around my cupboard and order accordingly. I have no choice to stick to my meal plan as I broke my toe on New Year's Day (not an ounce of plonk involved either) and can't go shopping, which is good for the purse:j

Apart from tomorrows delivery I've had 4 NSDs

£10.64 today. Not doing too badly.

Had left over pasta from last night for lunch today, actually tasted nicer reheated! HM fishcakes for tea.

Am doing quite a bit of travelling this week so may be able to call in at farm shops for some veggies (much cheaper) may even get to Home Bargains and Netto too (ooh the excitement!!)
