    Hi Handsewn

I try to avoid sewing by hand because I can guarantee it will fall apart.I haven't been doing mcuh sewing lately but I do enjoy it when I bother and I love admiring all the fabulous makes on here.

    Hi!

I am the same about machine sewing, I make a right old mess whenever I try! I have been following this thread for a while but only just picked up courage to join. I'd like to see your work sometime.

    Welcome handsewn,
I think you will find a mix of people, although there are a lot of people learning to sew on Sewing machines.
Personally I sew mostly with a machine, but also sew by hand, hems etc etc but dont do embroidery or patchwork.( Yet).
I won a lovely prize of a book called Hand Sewn, and I am looking longingly at the items in it. Who knows I may be doing a lot of both.

    Hello :)

I'd love to learn how to sew by machine but I find machines very fiddly for the type of work I do, it would probably also help if I bought a better machine to start with (no idea where to begin on that!)

I'd recommend embroidery. I just took it up and it has changed so many aspects of my work, although I am worried I might end up going over the top and start embroiding everything in sight.

If you can do a small back stitch you can stitch most things without the need of a sewing machine. Its just faster. I have done handbags that I have sold and they have been hand stitched while at my BFs for the weekend, but they took a whole weekend, and I can make a bag in an hour or so (basic one), so the time is an issue really for me.
If you look at the Homepages most of us have, that sends you to pictures on Blogs, and or Etsy/folksy links etc so you will see even more work then is posted here. Pictures need to be uploaded onto another hosting site before then can be put on here.

I'm new here and just had to join in on this thread (my user name probably gives away why!)

I sew doll clothes, the teeny-tiny kind for popular brands of Japanese dolls (Blythe, Licca...I am aware this might go over the head of most people who are unaware of them) and recently I have been just trying to sew everything and anything. I'll definately bookmark this thread for inspiration.

Am I alone in asking if anyone else out there prefers to sew by hand rather than use a sewing machine? I have a machine but I cannot get the hang of it.
I do enjoy hand sewing - very relaxing. However I also love sewing with a machine.....

I made this clown for my Daughter when she was teaching a reception class.

The idea was....children brought in a little something beginning with an a letter....which was placed in the corresponding pocket. It was a teaching aid which could be bought for £35 in an education mag....I made it out of stuff in my stash. The spotted fabric is Laura Ashley. The wall hanging is large and hung on a dowel rod.

Florenceem, your makes are brilliant. You are very clever.
I havent made toys for a long long time. But should really.
My parcel of patterns from America came, with a hefty Duty Fee of £13.77 today, on top of the charges. NEVER again.
But at least I now have some childrens party patterns, and somemore bag patterns,, some shoes, and some ordinary co-ordinates for children to make.
Bit for the Nursery, DGD and for the Mooloo stocks.
I am too tired to sew tonight, I havent packed for the weekend and I am off at 9am tomorrow, and doubt I will get much done but pack before I do go in the morning.
I am only on here as DGD is watching TV and playing or I would be in bed myself!!!

Have so many things I want to sew. When I get back I will have to make sure that I organise myself better, keep up with the Production line technique and push myself even when I dont really feel up to it. I know that once I do sit at the sewing machine I am happy.

I have only once had to pay customs fee on a US parcel. Do you buy fabric from the US?

Rightyho, There are so many pictures on the file that I'm just going to direct link to my album in photobucket. It shows pictures of the whole process including the stage where I had pinned all of the fabric together the wrong way round. Thankfully, I realised before I tried to pin it!
    Anyhoo, here's the linky! http://s921.photobucket.com/albums/ad59/kaz2904/Classic%20stitch%20coasters/My%20first%20roman%20blind/
