I have only once had to pay customs fee on a US parcel. Do you buy fabric from the US?
    No I bought Simplicity Patterns.
I was on the web late one night, and didnt realise that I was going to be getting them from America until I went to pay, and I thought Oh sod it and just bought them anyway. But I thought i had already paid the extra charges. I will need to go back and check the invoice for what I paid etc.
Its just frustrating. I could have gone shopping in the big town and bought the patterns in the end so much cheaper.!!
Oh well I have learnt the hard way.

I have bought gorgeous Amy Butler and Kaffe Fassett fabric from the US - much cheaper than here even with postage.

Beautifil makes florence, kaz love your blinds!

I was in seventh heaven at work last night as a client wife gave me a box of vintage dress patterns!!! all around the 1950's!!! I did not want to take them but she said it would only end up in the bin as no one is interested in dressmaking I have posted them on my blog and I am totally loving the bombshell dress course!
I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:

What a nice surprise Irishgirl, bet you were well chuffed. I will have a look at your blog xx

Florence, yet more beautiful makes xx

Mooloo, what a shame about the customs charge. I wonder how they decide what parcels will have to pay customs and what doesn't. My son was buying a lot of fabrics from the US last year and like Florence, he didn't pay customs on any of it. It would put me off of buying anything from the US.

It seems rather random. I buy from all over the world and it is always my stuff from the USA that gets hit with custom charges.

I've not bought craft products from the USA but I am tempted, the branded stuff for scrapbooking is much cheaper and easier to get than in the UK.

Mooloo - Your comment about the amount of time handsewing can take is pretty much why I wish I could sew by machine, it takes all day to make one tiny little dress. Thanks for the hints about where to find blogs/homepages (I am a massive Etsy fan)

Florenceseem - I love the Amy Butler fabric you used on the apron, it is gorgeous.

I just bought a new doll e.pattern. She is 16 inches and has a dress/loons/waistcoat and hat - cost £1.59.

When I get back from my birthday bash, I will catch up again. I have patterns of all sorts, but not from the 50's.
    Mostly late 70's onwards.
I gave away so much when I went into the pub trade thinking I would never sew again. The local University at the time gained two van loads of stuff including fabrics, accessories and patterns. But I didnt know then that I would end up back on my own, and loose it all. But I had kept a few things at my Mums. So they are what I still have.

I would still like to do the Sewing Lessons, (teaching) that I had planned just before DGD came to live with me. Perhaps I will you still never know.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
