I would be even luckier if he was giving it to me - it's costing £70, although it is brand new (mind you, I don't know how long he's had it stored in the back bedroom!). I was actually asking DH about the argos value machine as it's currently got 25% off at £44.99. He said 'will you use it though'. Well I won't know until I try it, anyway it was his idea to ask his dad (who had previously told he wanted £100 for it!). I said there's no way I'm paying £100, I can get a brand new one with guarantee and everything for that.
If it's anything like this it's a bit swish and definitely well worth £70

Could one of you lovely ladys help with a problem I have wth my machine?
I brought a JMB Overlocker yesterday and I have nearly finished my first project when It has completely jammed up the foot wont lift and the needles are down their is no material their so not stuck on the material and the needles are sharpe/unbent. I have looked through the manual but I cant find this problem.
Any Ideas?
I don't want you thinking you are ignored but Im not able to help as I don't have an overlocker (would love on though)
Im sure there will be someone along soon that could help
Is there a help phone No. you can call?
I have not had any time for sewing againbut I did cut out and pin my sew along bag but it will have to go on hold till the wkend as Thursday & Fridays are all day working days with just 5 mins here and there to catch up here
My DD's prom is tonight just hope her bag I made holds what she needs :rotfl:Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

I haven't actually seen the machine so I'm not sure which model it is. However, if it looks too complicated I shall be politely refusing
I think we're going up later on to have a look.

When this sort of thing happens to me, I tend to cut the threads off.
Remove the needles from the arm, so that you can wiggle them out.
Its usually caused by
Bent needle, or the fabric previously cut off being caught up between the teeth/cutting tool.
If you open the bottom of the machine, where the various threads are meeting, you may be able to see the problem.
It may have come unhooked on one of the threads, and that can snarl it up as well.
I have had to put my machine on its back so to speak, to be able to get to the workings before.
Sorry thats abit vague, but its difficult to say when my machine is a different one. (And 18 years old!)
I must admit I do get days when I wonder why I am using it, and then others when it works like a dream.!! No logic me thinks. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

If it is the same model, could you barta with your FIL and say its only £60 on that site? £10 is £10 afterall. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Right I have managed to finish 6 bags today. I sewed from 10 till 1pm. I am thrilled. I think the "production line" way to make things was certainly time saving. I have a few purses and wallets still to finish off.
But I am thrilled, as it will bring things within a saleable price. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Mooloo just being curious really, do you use the same colour thread for all of them? (can imagine for instance a creamy colour would be ok for most pastel colours). Production line definitely sounds like a good idea.
I'm feeling chuffed with myself as after making a top that was actually wearable, I've now completed a whole dress (from a top pattern). It's not particularly material I'd have chosen but it was only 50p from a car boot sale, and I did get a pretty sewing box from the same lady for £2 so more or less nil cost:T
Reading this thread for ages has given me just the confidence I needed, seeing all the lovely things you all make, kept telling myself I'm not stupid and 'anyone' can do it:).
Also had what I think may be a good idea for something simple that could be sold, so will try it out and mull it over.
Oh, and made a toy for our dog using the leg from an old pair of jeans (first try with a heavy-duty needle). It's exactly what she'd have ordered and she's thrilled to bits with it:)0 -

have you got thread wrapped round the loopers or the foot0 -
Well my copy of the bag making bible arrived this week, it all looks very complicated and I think I am going to have to sit and spend a lot of time reading through it carefully.
Anyway I went to the material shop to spend my vouchers. I fell in love with Liberty material which seemed to be the most expensive cottons in the shop so I spent a small fortune on material.
I am feeling very nervous about putting the bag together so I am going to use some really old material that I have to try and make a sample bag, before I destroy my new very expensive material
The ladies in the shop were in general very patient and helpful but one seemed very reluctant to help me leaving me feeling very dispirited, thank goodness for the knowledgable helpful woman.
It looks as if this sewing habit may become a very expensive one as there are so many gorgeous materialsTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0
