Thank you :) And I've returned the favour, I love looking at what other people make! I'm studying speech and language therapy in the hope that eventually I'll qualify as a speech therapist (and hopefully there'll be so more jobs by then - I finally decide what I want to do with my life, give up my full-time job only to find all the jobs are disappearing :() - I enjoy the course but it's very busy and we're doing it in 3 years instead of 4 hence why I haven't finished for summer yet!

    What are you studying?

Ah I thought about doing SAL therapy :) I ended up doing childhood studies and I am not sure what I will do after I want to go into art therapy but I can't really afford it and there are hardly any places that do it so it wouldn't be possible for quite a while because my fiance's degree is longer than mine so we can't move. Ah I am so glad to have finished I need sleep now!

Right. Have made a decision. I am going to do the ironing, then make my bread. Then whilst that's rising, I shall get on and whip the cakes into the oven. Then throw all the clothes upstairs. THEN.... I'll put my sewing box back together and fill it up and will be able to do some playing- err- sewing tongiht! Phew! I've not been at the machine for ages because I've been so busy painting and stuff :( I haven't even tried out my new foot. I have a pair of jeans which I've never worn and I want to shorten them so that I can wear them. Plus I want to cannibalise some of DH's shirts before summer's gone completely!

    Rikki, love your hat.

I got a sheet a two pillowcases from the charity shop last week in a lovely blue and lilac flower pattern. I've used one of the pillowcases to make a pillowcase dress to send to Louise at Sew Scrumptious for the 'Dress a girl around the world' charity.

    Hello!

    Can anyone advise me please?

I want to add some gems to the soft jersey material round the V neck of a dress to brighten it up a little. The gems are suitable for stitching (I've cut them off a jumper, very MSE). I intend to lay them on first to see how they look but when I start to sew them will loose any semblance of pattern. Is there a 'proper' way to do this? Or even an 'improper' way?

I don't want to ruin the dress and have a bit of a track record for 'improving things worse'.

Marg - would you be able to mark where they have to go with a pin or a piece of tailors chalk or something? I usually mark things like this with pins if there are not too many, you can just catch a tiny piece of the fabric with the pin for the centre of each bead and then push it right in up to the head so it doesnt come out. Also could do it with a thread in a contrasting colour, double it up in a needle and then sew and pull the thread through to show the centre of the bead and pull the thread until you have about an inch's worth - half inch each side of the stitch and cut then do the next one and so on.

How about laying them on until they look right, then taking a photo?
Or, once they look right, draw the neck with the gems marked so you can copy as you go:)

    Thank you! Ladies

Rufus Dog - thank you your idea of pins/thread sounds like what I am seeking and pins go though the holes in the gems so will give it a go.

Diflower - thank you, what I was after was to keep them in place once I started to sew more than to remember what I'm doing.
