Hello!
Can anyone advise me please?
I want to add some gems to the soft jersey material round the V neck of a dress to brighten it up a little. The gems are suitable for stitching (I've cut them off a jumper, very MSE). I intend to lay them on first to see how they look but when I start to sew them will loose any semblance of pattern. Is there a 'proper' way to do this? Or even an 'improper' way?
I don't want to ruin the dress and have a bit of a track record for 'improving things worse'.
I would be tempted to use a bit of fabric glue just to stick them in place and then sew them on to secure them properly. TBH even a bit of prittstick or taping over with masking tape should stick them on temporarily while you sew them on0 -

Thank you - that sounds even easier than pinning them - can you explain 'fabric glue' I've got some I think it's called liquid thread?
Another daft question if I may - the dress is dark navy and the gems are bright turquoise is there a convention whether the thread matches the fabric or the gems - there will only be a couple of stitches at either 'end' of the gem??0 -

I have been sewing again today, not photographed yet as I was doing some "production line". I cut out a selection of purses and bags yesterday, approx 20 of them, then today I started to sew them. So they have all had some work done on them, but only 3 are finished so far. Nearly the 4th but my neck has complained its had enough! So no more sewing for me tonight. Been looking at the links though, and the lovely pictures of the makes. Not managed to visit all the blogs yet. Havent visited my own for a few days, or even looked at my website! Eeek,, It has to be updated as there is nothing on it at the moment.
On the plus side, the beachbag was liked, and sold. Then another Mum wants 4 of my small bags and 4 wallets, in any combination. So I will do them next.
The shop has my things, that will be on a 2 weeks trial. Not so sure she will sell them though. She is humming and harring about the terms and conditions/pricing now. So I am not going to count my chickens before my eggs. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
