  • Hi, I would really love to join in with you. I was looking through the Next Directory the other day and there were loads of things I would love to have, and then I wondered if I could make similar bedding and soft furnishings myself, so that is now my plan!

I'm lusting after the Laura Ashley soft furnishings at the mo :happyhear- I have cut out loads of pics from the new catalogue and stuck them in my ideas notebook. Have you had a go at anything yet?

I've just covered my Next Directory box with bits of wallpaper so I can use it to keep all my parenting magazines in - sounds rubbish :o but looks very nice! Check it out on my blog - there's also a long list on there of all the sewing projects I'm going to attempt.... many taken from links on this thread thanks everyone :T! Lucy x
  • If you buy patterned socks, most of them will have a plain toe and heel. I use ladies socks mostly, as I make larger monkeys, and buy from Primark, Ebay, Tesco etc. where ever I see some with patterns I like. Stripes are probably the best because they are knitted in the round, but if you get camoflage ones, or some with a little pattern on them like hearts - put your hand in and stretch them as far as they will go. Quite a few of these type of socks will have loose threads around the pattern and they will pop out to the right side and your monkey won't look very good and could get holes in him.
  • There is a tutorial for a nice fabric flower on sewritzytitzy.blogspot.com
If you click on the blue bag on the left side of the page you will go through to the tutorial page for the flower

I have brought some nice ones on ebay, I got 2 prs/black with red hearts & red with balck hearts on and I found some red heart buttons so Im going to make a plain black sock monkey ( black socks lol) with the buttons for eyes and put a red heart madr from felt on the front for my OH for valentines day :D

Just been catching up on all your lovely work. Went to Ikea today (whoooo!) Didn't buy any fabric but got some 69p cushions that I thought I could have a bash at covering for pressies. Nice simple project to get me started hopefully.

zombiecazz I love your napkins especially the mushrooms. Wow they are brilliant. did you follow a pattern or sew them freehand?

This isn't exactly sewing but I mentioned I was making a denim rag bag and Hart44 asked to see pics. It's not totally finished yet but I've done enough to give you an idea of what it's going to look like. If you're interested I've posted a pic on my blog.

I found a mushroom shape I liked and free hand drew them on the napkins with a sharpie then filled them in with embroidery

Peppop - your rag bag is excellent! You must be very patient!
I can only imagine the amount of fluff and threads after making that, my normal makes usually generate a huge amount of threads, I feel sorry for my poor hoover :)
Dont forget to post again once it's done i'm keen to see what you decide to do with the handles.

in-the-beach-hut Nooo don't show me the Laura Ashley site - the spendy elves must stay locked in their box. I have just became a stalker on your blog :T

gemsmember thanks for the link - that's the kind of thing I was thinking of putting on my bag when it's done.

hart Your sock monkey is gonna be lovely - don't forget the pics

craftylady I got the idea from here but I'm doing mine as more of a clutch bag and I'm doing the handles differently.

Kandipandi It's the two cats who have a fascination for the fluff I'm worried about. Dreading the furrballs :D:eek:
  • Hi everyone Have really enjoyed reading all your posts. I have a sewing machine bought a while ago itching to get using it, but finding it so difficult to buy fabric. My daughter is going to take me to Ikea when she is feeling much better, as I know that I could buy fabric there. I have also ordered two sewing books from play.com today so am hoping to get going shortly. I am a complete beginner but eager to learn. I wish there were sewing classes in my area but nothing as yet. Those projects are all wonderful and I would love to be as good someday:)
Do a little kindness every day.;)
