Hope someone can help me, i`ve just bought Sew What Bags by Lexie Barnes and it has a really nice messenger bag made with fabric of a London Map & Guide .Its a medium weight canvas , i`ve googled it but can`t find any.
My dd who lives in Germany would love a bag made with it.
    Thanks
  • What about using Tee shirt transfer and printing some pieces of fabric yourself. You can print a map onto the transfer paper (you can choose an area that your daughter knows so it would be personal) then iron it onto fabric, and make your bag from this. I have used transfer paper for printing photos etc. for bag making and they have lasted 2 years so far without fading.
  • This is not London, but is a map of the UK - it is sheeting fabric and is an 80" x 54" size so would make a lot of tote bags. It is £8.75 including shipping and is item no. 380174248254 on Ebay. I don't know if it would be suitable, but worth having a look
  • Another thought - what about a Tea towel. I just googled London map and also London underground and found several at about £3.99 each. I would think one would be enough to make a messenger bag because you could use a contrast fabric with it too.

i'd like to make a cordorroy big hooded short waistcoat top, sorry can't describe it any better... I saw one in a shop in glastonbury, cant remember the name, but the waistcoat chest pieces / cord fastening wasnt big enough to reach around my ample assets... does anyone have any suggestions for how i'd go about making one?

NOT the same as this, this is from Pooka Designs who are fabulous but i do not want to copy them, that isn't fair, i want my own challenge, shorter and in a size that fits!

Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!
  • percyandbags027-2-1.jpg I made these bags from a pair of jeans. The big one for me and the 2 little ones for the girls next door.
They are sewn all with straight lines so very simple to make. The top of the bag is the bottom hem of the legs and the handle is the waistband.
I put a front pocket inside my sisters bag which, because it is nice and deep, she finds ideal for keeping her brolly in.
One of the first things I made and ideal for beginners.

I can't help with a map of London but there is a new range of cotton fabrics showing London icons. Red buses etc. A bit expensive but might be worth a look.

It is available elsewhere but this is the cheapest I found after a very quick look. It's normally in the quilting fabric shops.
  • Thanks for this thread, I've been following it and it has inspired me to learn how to use the sewing machine that my OH bought me from lidl 2 years ago.
I got it out the other day, it took me 2 hours to thread it :o it's not a drop in spool but one where the spool thingy goes in a metal thing first, i nearly gave up!

I'm going to get it out again this afternoon and attempt to make a morse bag out of a remnant that I bought for £1.

I ordered this the other day

and got this heart kit free!
