No, it won't you'll need some sturdier needles. You can pick needles up in Asda or other supermarkets but I don't know how fit for purpose they are. Maybe will tide you over until you know whether you're going to need more sewing done.
Am being dragged out shopping now but DH has Alice in wonderland with the freaky people to watch tonight so I'll carry on cutting out then.

I have a box of needles here I was given from a freecycler that gave me her machine, but the machine blew up :( So I had another machine given to me from a fellow facebooker, will the needles from the other machine fit mine? and what needle do I use?

Just a wee head's up for anyone who does fabric craft with their children. I was in Poundland today and saw that they had packs of 10 sheets of felt A4 size in assorted colours. I bought a pack. It is quite thin compared to the lovely felt I won yesterday, but fine for simple craft.

I am a special needs teacher and have been off work with a neurological disorder. I am looking forward to going back tomorrow. I have made sea creature finger puppets from the poundland felt. The puppets are sown around the edge with an open space for finger holes at the bottom.I am cutting out the scraps into stripes, spots etc for the children to stick on with pva. They should look very effective.

I have had to pop my sewing machine in for a service - the old girl was playing-up a bit. The faster I went, the smaller the stitches got and then I couldn't move the needle position either. I need the machine for the second part of the "quilting-on-the-go" course that I am doing next Saturday. I have had to borrow my Mums machine so that I can finish my homework - I have to piece and quilt at least 6 16inch blocks. We will be shown how to join them together on the next course.

It is a great way to make quilts - no more wrestling with all the different layers in the hallway! My aim is to use all my collected vintage embroidered tray clothes & hankies to make a king size quilt for my bed, but I want it to be more of a long term project, so I am just going to make another small lap quilt to go on the back of the sofa.

Just when I will get a chance to do my homework, I dont know! I also have to write end-of-year reports for the children in my new class. I have only been teaching them since Easter, but it is a legal requirement for parents to recieve an end-of-year report. I also have three job applications to do and it is the Little Fella's second Birthday next week.

Sewing is the only thing keeping me sane atm! (well that and my Zumba tonight)

Tamster your vinatge quilt idea sounds very inspiring. I don't know how you fit it in with teaching and a two years old though!

...and a 3 and a half yr old!!!
I work three days, so usually sew on one of my non-working days. My work/family/crafting comes at the expense of the housework!

I have my best-buddie from uni visiting tomorrow - we haven't seen each other for over two years, I think she will be surprised how little the housework features on my list of priorities now :rotfl:.

Hello ladies (and gents if there are any out there)!

Just coming in for a bit of advice/ideas where to look for a sewing machine. I've started researching a bit but don't really know what I want/need.
Bit of backround/what I want to do. I used to sew clothes (shirts, skirts etc) when I was a lot younger (at school) but haven't ever owned a sewing machine and it's been a long while since I last used one. However, I want to get one and start doing clothes, bags, quilting and all sorts, so need a good all round machine that can sew heavier fabrics as well. The problem comes with how much I can spend - £300 at most I think, maybe could stretch to £350 if needs be. Not sure on the electronic/computerised thing as I don't know which is better. Just want something that is a quality product, will last and do all the different jobs I want it to do.

So, any ideas/ advise would be most welcome. Thanks a lot in advance.

i bought this for myself last year in june for my birthday and love it ive done loads with it, roman blinds, cushions, loads of differenrt home decor, quilting, made a dress and top for my dd. I paid more than this i think but i cannot remember

Erm, I *think* that most machines take generic needles but the easiest way to check is to undo the needle and have a look at the top of it, compare it to the others and see if it'll fit.

HMO love the cushion my 13yr old wants me to help her make a bag - we shall see. (nice monster)

Pennib love the colours of your quilt.

we have just got back from a nice weekend away, we had two night in one place a complete surprise for my DH as it was his 40th on Saturday he was taken off by some friends with our youngest. Whilst me and the three girls frantically finished packing, to be able to drive down with 'the wives' it was exhausting and stressful but great at the same time he kept saying thank you all weekend as we 'the family' stayed on a yacht in the marina.
Then we had two more nights extra that I had booked last year so we were 'tourists' for a weekend.
I know it is not sewing but here is the cake I made

    Thanks Ladies

The needles I had here fitted :) So I have made my first Jean Bag, with lining, although the lining took longer to do than the bag itself!!

Just need to bling the front of the bag now :) any ideas??
