Oh well done wen-tom - what a shame someone just threw a machine away when someone else could make use of it, but hey....great for you tho LOL!
I don't know that particular model but if its an older Singer machine then I reckon it will be fab. Have you googled the model number for info. If you really want to get into sewing it might be worth gettng the machine serviced, it makes a heck of a difference and shouldn't cost much more that £35/£40?0 -
Love the new thread, but didn't like to post a message on there as it is just for instructions/tutorials.
Avstar - have you chosen your material yet? Billie xx:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0 -

Hi Avstar
I have googled but nothing much comes up. I have a new sewing machine (a toyota) but this is a whole different ball game :rotfl:
I just thought it was such a shame to see it thrown away that it could come live at my houseI don't need it to work but I would like to get it all cleaned up and learn how to use it. I'll have a look for servicing places here :T

Wen Tom not sure what part of the country you are in but there is a very good sewing machine man in Whitstable in Kent. Even if you are not close enough he may know of another man your way. Billie x:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0

I think I have identified it and found a manual onlineso I am a little further but I still dont have a clue what I am looking at as it doesn't have the normal bobbins - it has a vibrating shuttle with funny little long bobbins

Hi Billie, thank you so much for thatLeeds would be closest but is still 1 hour away. I only have 1 sewing shop in Hull and I dont know how good they are so I am willing to travel to get it fixed up.

Wen Tom you can click on the link and you should get a little slip to fill in and send back electronically and then they can contact you. The machine is like the one of you tube - lovely I do so like manual machines - when I was at school I would prefer the treadle machines to the modern electric ones. My mother was a dressmaker and hers used to go so fast it frightened me and many a time her fingers got caught by the needle. Good luck I am sure it can be sorted. i sent them a message. i don't think theres much wrong that a good clean won't fix
i know what you mean about going too fast. when i was younger my gran would offer to plug her old singer in for me and i would always say no cos it scared the life out of me :rotfl: i'm not such a baby any more but i still have my machine on the slow setting0 -

Hi Billie, no not yet, I think me & t'other half are goiing to his friend's this weekend so will report back :j
Also love the (look of) the old manual machines. My mum still uses a treadle Singer, looks like Wen-toms machine but in a cabinet with a foot treadle. Don't think she's ever had it serviced tho! They scare me, she can't half get some speed going on the treadle :rotfl:0
