I cant wait! I did do a a short course in the summer last year, but was too fast paced for me, this corurse seems more in depth. Its still only a 10 week course, but goes through how to read patterns and cut the fabric etc. Will put any pics on here of anything I get to make there! :)

Well last night I had my first lesson on my sewing machine, I was shown how to thread it and was practising on some old sheets and was itching to get some practise in this evening with an actual make (I am so impatient) so when I got home from work I thought I would try a slip case for my phone, no template just felt, fabric and the machine, this is what I came up with it, its by no means perfect but my phone fits in it and I love it haha. What do you think? And now honestly, I promise you wont hurt my feelings lol. The second pic shows the stitching at the top but I don't know how to make this better. Can anyone help?

Genuinely think that looks great Sarah. What was the problem with stitching at top? I cant really see from the photo. Did you topstitch after you sewed it together? If yes then as its quite narrow (not sure if your machine has a free arm) I would be inclined to topstitch before I sew the main pieces together (obviously have to do it slightly differently if its lined - not sure if it is?) If you let us know what the problem was am sure we can help. Well done! Looks great and love your fabric. x

Natc - enjoy your course. Let us know how you get on. x

it looks good to me, well done.

was it because you couldnt get it around the free arm, i had that problem at weekend i made a kindle cover for my SIL that was about 6inch wide and that wouldnt fit around the free arm so i just had to take my time and top stitch slowly, with hindesight (not sure thats spelt right) i should have top stitched before i sewed up the side seems which may have been easier but sure as it was lined so could have gien myself a whole lot of other problems!

its all good fun thought trying isnt it

Oooh, a Kindle cover. I've been looking on ebay for one of those. Maybe I'll make one!

If anyone is interested, I've just got back from Asda and they have a 24 stitch sewing machine for £40 in the sale.
Can't remember the make, but may be worth a look.
