I like that tree Cuddles, hope someone finds one. Looks like the side bits would be easy enough to do but not sure how they would all fit together.

I tried a different thread on my machine and its still looping so have boxed it up and will wait for them to come and take it to fix. Luckily I have a spare one, its donkeys years old and isnt the best stitcher but better than nothing and will do for me to stitch patchwork pieces together as no one will see the sewing once its finished. I have nearly finished piecing together the top now, have to just do a piece the width of the quilt (single bed) and about 18 inches long to finish off the bottom of it then two long strips of squares down each side and it should be big enough. Will be about the same size as a single bed duvet cover. Need to get to Dunelm Mill for some wadding, I have some backing fabric already I think which would do.
  • Cuddles, that tree brought back memories, I used to make loads of stuff like that when I worked with people with mental health problems, some of the ladies were the most fantastic needlewomen.

Since it is over 5 years since I have worked in that area, I'll have a dig around some of my Xmas patterns, I know we made some of these trees, they were rather fiddly though, well for me anyway, and I may not have kept the pattern, which if I remember was probably a magazine pull-out.
Also it will give me an excuse to look through my patterns again.
I keep meaning to make another prodded wallhanging.

Thanks Sally - think they will be a bit fiddly, which is why I'd prefer a pattern instead of trying to make it up as I go along :D

I know I can buy the pattern, but its quite expensive. Just wondered if there was a cheaper way.

I know that pattern was in an old edition of a sewing magazine - because I've got it! My local fabric shop was getting rid of loads a while ago. I'll have a look and see which one it was in.

    Hi everyone!

I have started a new job & had forgotten how much my line of work takes over your life!

I am making slow progress on my quilts (yes I know they were meant to be finished for Christmas lol). I have finished one, have one to bind and one to quilt!

Pootle I don't think that you need a special foot. My ancient machine allows me to move the needle to the left, then I just follow the edge of the foot to get a 1/4 seam.

and hello to all the newbies. To get you started, I LOVE this blog. http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/ They have their own projects on there but they also have links to other tutorials. Anything that you want to make can usually be found on there! Before Christmas they had "Handmade Holidays" with links for making gifts for just about everyone.

Thanks for putting the Xmas Tree link Justamum, they look quite easy to make once you know how.

I tried a different thread in my machine but it still isnt working so they are coming to pick it up tomorrow. Dont know how long they would have it for, hope its not too long.
