Lol join the club of women addicted to sewing:D

Tomorrow I have two sock monkeys to start, two embroidered bookmarks to make and two machine embroidered 'Home Sweet Home' samplers to do and frame for Xmas presents.

Yesterday I made four more personalised bookmarks for my Dad, Mum (patricia) and two for my MIL (Anastasia).

I also made a sock monkey for my daughter out of a pair of her old tights LOL. I'm just about to put a photo of it on my blog for anyone that is interested in seeing it;)

Lovely bookmarks. Do you hand embroider the names or do you do it by machine? Looks brilliant!
  • Thank you all for your comments. No the bookmarks are not hand embroidered 'shudder' LOL. They are all done on my sewing machine. I don't 'do' hand sewing unless I have to. Believe me if I can work out a way to make sock monkeys on the machine instead of by hand that's how they will be made:D

I have to admit though that as the sock monkeys come to life it does make the task of hand sewing more enjoyable. The monkey I made with tights looked frightful until she got her nose and ears on then my daughter could see if coming to life. I have to make a tutu fo it today out of a pair of her old blingy pink dressing up shorts.

I am really struggling at the moment to find cheap pillows or cushions for stuffing. Think Tesco or Asda may be the best place, there is certainly nothing in town.

[more approriate section] How do you make a bag/purse/wallet stand upright (as opposed to a flat one); are there are video/written tutorials on that? Thanks to those who know

I did my (unfinished) sock monkey by machine, one of the tutorials I found suggested that you machine sew the tail on so I figured that I could do the same for the arms & ears. I made the body and stuffed the legs, I turned the body inside out, made & stuffed the arms & tail, cut a tiny hole where I wanted the arms/tail to go, put the arms inside the body, put the top of the arm through the hole and stitched over the arm & hole a few times. seems pretty secure. Does that make any sense???

I just have to handstitch the crotch and face (hence the monkey still being a UFO lol!)

i've used poundland cushions and wilkinson's cushion inscerts to take appart for the stuffing. i prefered wilkinsons for the better texture just like real wadding.
