It depends on what you want your machine for.
I have got by with basic machines even when I was making weddingdresses for a living.

My must have is, reverse stitch, straight stitch, zigzag, and buttonholes. Everything else is a bonus! Those with more modern machines may tell you more, but after 40 years of sewing I have managed with these things. (Plus my overlocker now). But you can get over that with having the zigzag.:D
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

  • Thanks for everyone's help, went to Dunelm Mill tonight and bought a Singer 8280. I'm yet to try it, but the lady that served me said she used hers all the time and could recommend it.

Good afternoon and it's Friday! Yippee! I hope the lovely people in here can help or point me in the right direction. My DD is very interested in Cath Kidston fabrics and I am looking to making up a little parcel of appropriate CK stuff. I'm particularly looking for CK remnants so that I can use it as wrapping for a notebook and mug I've already got. Any idea where I might be able to find some? I've been on ebay but there isn't much to see.

    Hi,
I also am a huge fan of cath kidstons shabby chic type fabrics but the price tag is too expensive so i use this lady on Ebay, she has loooads of shabby chic, Cath Kidston esque fabrics for much cheapness, I'm sure your daughter won't trully know the difference especially if your using it for projects, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FAVOURITE-FABRICS They are really fast at shipping also :T
