Or if you have LIDL near you, they had one for £60 last week which had got 33 stitches,
I recently bought one singer one from Tesco direct but it is discontinued now....

Hello, I'm new to sewing and want to start making home furnishings for a house we are renovating. I have very little experience of sewing. I have seen that the Which magazine recommend the Brother BC2100 as a good machine for beginners and I'v found it for around £175. Do people feel this is a good starter machine or does anyone have any other recommendations. Thank you.
I have the ES2020 and am very happy with it. It is one model below BC2100 I believe bought it from here:

Thanks genie, for posting the link...I wanted to order machine needles...so I tried to order from that site but the mininmum order value is £15......
Do you know any other site for buying the needles please?0 -
Good afternoon and it's Friday! Yippee! I hope the lovely people in here can help or point me in the right direction. My DD is very interested in Cath Kidston fabrics and I am looking to making up a little parcel of appropriate CK stuff. I'm particularly looking for CK remnants so that I can use it as wrapping for a notebook and mug I've already got. Any idea where I might be able to find some? I've been on ebay but there isn't much to see. Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning the devil says, "OH CARP, SHE'S UP"! :whistle:0

Hi,
Try http://jmm-marketing.co.uk/ for your machine needles, or ebay may have cheaper P & P charges.
Cheers

I also recently bought the singer machine from Tesco (before Llidles had theirs in stock) and its a lovely quiet machine. Does straight stitch and zig zag so good for a beginer. The only thing thats annoys me is having to take the sewing compartment out to change the spool. (Its a bit stiff as well) But I am very pleased with it and does what I need. (and it was very cheap)0 -

I have to take my section off to get to the spool compartment. Infact lots of my machines have been like this.
Could you give it a squirt with machine oil? or WD40. I always have that around to clean my machines! But if using the oil you need to sew something rag through it to make sure there is no residue left before making your best things!.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

There is very few and far between CK stuff alas!.
Even her website doesnt have much reduced. CK is very much in demand.
It cost me £10 for a metre of the boats fabric a few weeks ago!.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Do you remember the model of your singer as Sainsburys have 20% off some at the moment.
