Vicki, I've just been looking back at the wedding hearts you made. My niece is getting married next month and I fancied having a go but haven't embroidered before. Do I need an embroidery hoop?0

I've never done embroidery either but it turned out well.
I made the heart up and stuffed it and then did the embroidery so the fabric didn't move about but also I could make sure it was centered.
If I was doing it again I would have done a white heart and blue thread as the white thread got a bit grubby as I was doing it.
I googled embroidery stitches and in the end did one where you made a small stitch then came up halfway back and then did another small one, following the pencil line on the fabric I'd drawn.
Just make sure the couple you make them for like that kind of thing. I didn't even get a thank you from them grrrr.0 -
I'm hoping to make a couple today so I'll take pics and put some instrictions on later then.
Cuddles - the cat is fab. Where did you get the pattern?
Its a McCalls Cynthia Rose pattern No M5259.
There are often some on ebay.
Its years since I've used a proper pattern - used to making up as I go along. Was weird following instructions. Think it was worth it though.Jack of all trades ... Master of none

OK here is my quick and easy seat pads, the basic idea was taken from a book I have with a few tweaks. Sorry if the instructions are oversimplified, but I like simple!...
1. Make a pattern using newspaper, measure to the centre of your chair and make sure that the centrefold of the paper is on it. Double check for symmetry using the fold and neaten up if necessary.
2. Cut out 2 x fabric using your pattern, use the fold in the newspaper to help align the pattern on your fabric. Pin one piece right side up to your wadding. I used two layers of wadding as mine was quite thin. Use the fabric as a guide to cut your wadding out. Tack this all in place.
3. Put whatever you are using for the ties in place at the corner with the long bits in the centre as shown in the photo. Do another one at the other corner.
4. Put the other piece of fabric on the very top so that your fabrics are right sides facing. Pin in place, especially at the corners so that the ties are in the right position.
5. Sew together leaving a gap so that you can turn. You may want to snip into the corners so they are neater.
6. Turn the right way round and handstitch the opening closed.
7. Remove the tacking stitches. Add buttons if you like, I haven't but will probably do something to hold the wadding in place if I wash the pads.0 -
am I daft - I was amazed when I sw plumbs fabric at £1 a metre and thought it would sell out in seconds - am I mising something - hardly anyone has posted on the plumb thread and not a soul has remarked on it on here - is there something I dont know - hope not as I ordered 25 metres last night to play with
Thanks for that danemi1, I've ordered some lining material this morning by phone, as it couldn't be ordered on line. I keep looking at the material, but can't make up my mind at the moment I'll probably miss the boat.Debt Free Dec 2009non-smoker 19th Nov 2010Trying to lose weight 40lb/42lb
