Hi there, I've been lurking for a while, and I've finally summoned up the courage to ask a question.....I've finally decided to have another bash and learn to sew with a sewing machine. My mum has given me an old Jones sewing machine (I can't afford to buy one). It doesn't have a model number, all I can find is 'made in the USSR' (which shows how old it is!!)I'm trying to find a manual, and the rubber replacement belt for it. However, I'm struggling as I can't find out what model it is annd hoping someone can help. Here is the info on it, if anyone can identify it I would be eternally grateful!!

    It looks like this:

    I hope you can help!

thanks for the help people, but sadly changing the thread and needle didnt help with my machine not wanting to hold the 'zig' of a zig zag - it's even grumpier now... it wont even do running stitch!

oh when i said it's a Elna 2005, i didnt mean 2005 the year, but the model number, i've had it half my life! it's at least 15 years old... so no new machine envy here!

so, as it is playing up, and i was visiting my mum's yesterday anyway, i took the bunting over there and stitched it together on a machine over 50yrs old! she was a beauty who could only do 2 stitches - running and zigzag - (i told mum they now count as one stitch and she was sad!) and she wouldnt hold tension for more than 30cms without a wiggle... teaches you to count your blessings doesnt it?!
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!

What luck Shirlgirl, you got to upgrade your machine with full cash trade in on your old one - result! I have a SMD budget Brother and I am really happy with it, it's coped with quite a lot of things that 4 months ago when I bought it I swore I would never need it to do! Hope you get it tomorrow so I can have a peek on Friday!
Well that's it. I bought mine January and thought it was fine but I've been trying to do some clothing adjustments by adding velcro and my machine couldn't cope so to say I'm delighted is an understatement. It will def arrive tomorrow so yes you can help me figure it out Friday. I won't get a chance to play tomorrow as I'll be out from about 8.30am. Just hoping DS hears the door!

I think that Jones became part of Brothers? many years ago.
You could try taking the belt to one of those market type people that sell belts for vacuums? sorry its a bit vague.

'Jones' is now owned by Brother so it would probably be worth contacting them with as much info about your machine as possible.
Or you could pay to have a complete service and repair. I couldn't see a picture of the machine but if it is one of the old sturdy robust models it will probably be worth spending a little on it to get it back in working order.

Just found this but there's no guarantee it will fit your machine.
