    Tips needed please!
Ive spent the last hour or so trying to make scented hearts. Ive used a heart template and am sewing round the heart shape before cutting out. All looks fine but when I turn it right sides out it doesnt resemble a heart too well! Any tips on sewing round corners? I dont think my 'flow' is very good so they arent coming out curved enough but Ive attempted loads of times and not improving!! Are they best sewed on a quick stitch rather than at the slowest setting? x

Also made a sock bunny today which was a total disaster! Looks like an alien!!! Not a good day in sewing land today!! x

    My tips on hearts:

Use a template with quite a deep centre bit as the definition gets a bit lost once they are turned.

Sewing round the corners, sew slowly and every few stitches stop with the needle down and lift the foot, pivot the fabric aound a tiny bit then put the foot back down and sew a bit more and so on until you have finished the curve. Do this at the pointed end too.

    Hope that helps. x

You will need to clip the fabric round the curves so that when you turn it right sides out it follows the curve. Just to elaborate - on the curve make a series of cuts at intervals almost to the stitching line - this allows the fabric to follow the curve when you turn it. Also at the low point in the centre of the heart you need to do the same.

littleowl I was just going to say clip the curves!

Vicki you sure whipped that monkey up quickly, you dont let the
grass grow under your feet do you!?

moneysavinglaura; if you just intend to do straight stitching with nothing fancy I
would think that machine would be alright. 10 pairs eh you will be gone a long time!!
But how money saving will it be...wow £120+ you are going to be saving loads and
have a machine at the end of it!!

A sewing machine on eBay the same as one of mine. LOOK HERE . You don't very often find them and it's very cheap compared to original price in the early 90's.

Hi Rikki - what is the advantage to this machine? I see iti s computerised, being as novice, will this help or should I go for a simpler machine?
    Cheers

Vicki, Stinky is great. I don't know about your first attempt, he looks like you're an old hand at sock monkeys!

I made a little drawstring bag today using fabric from our fabric swap (thanks, Wendy)
